Hi folks! I have this idea of buying an amphead (Tiny terror or Lil night Train) for gigs. I mean, a gigging amp. But what if the amp available on the venue is a combo amp? How can I bypass the amp of that ceratin combo and just use the speakers of it?
Magulo ba yung tanong?
May ganito na bang thread? Sorry, kung nagsimula ulit ako ng bago. Medyo nahihirapan ako mag search e.
Salamat sa response.

I think ang mahirap to factor in is the speaker rating kng pasok sa amp head. Unless the head can take 4,8 and 16ohms na. Next is the input jacks. Most combo amps wlang ganun kasi usually speaker out ang meron.
May napanood ako video na ang ginawa nya sa FX loop nya pinadaan ung head, bypassing the combo's amp, pero it depends ata sa model ng head or nung combo amp..
Before nun wala pako cab, i modded my combo amp to have an amp in na plug na speakers lang ang gagana. Ayus naman 18 pesos mod worth while hehe

Anong genre ng band mo bro? Di ka ba kakapusin sa 2 watts ng Vox Lil' Night Train?

@skybox, sorry. yung 15watter yung ibig ko sabihin na Night train. Dream pop kind of thing ang tugtugan namin. Ambient dreamy soundscape ang kalimitan kong part. Riffs na busog na busog sa low gain OD chorus delay at reverb. Sometimes Fuzz when needed.
Well, it's been a while since I get serious sa pagbabanda. Nakita ko kasi na iisa ang goal namin so I ask my wife If I can fund another gear for our gigs. At eto nga yun. Amphead.
So what's your suggestions guys? Will it b feasible kahit na yung amp na available sa venue e combo? I've seen videos that you just need to detached the speaker wire behind the combo and attach it to the speaker out of the amphead. But what if the amp available doesn't have that feature?
Thanks guys.

my assumption is you have a car and the capacity to lug your gear, then instead of hoping for a speak that would fit your head, might as well get a matching cabinet.

I'm assuming you still have time to prepare... :-D
If you're gonna buy an amp head...yung minimum 4 ohms ang impedance para pwede sa 4,8 at 16 ohm speaker/s.
Try mo gumawa (or magpagawa or kung may nabibili) ng speaker cable na Male connector yung isang dulo tapos yung kabilang dulo ay "speaker forks" or "Y". Hindi ko alam tawag...basta yung kinakabit sa speakers..
Then lets hope na:
a. Open back yung amp. Pag closed back, im not sure kung papayagan ka tanggalin yung cover
b. Match yung impedance ng speaker sa amp head mo
b. Hindi fixed yung connection ng amp sa speaker.
b. Payagan ka i-disconnect yung speaker
Good luck :)
PS: Do you have an "exception" na kung yung amp na yun ang nasa venue, hindi mo gagamitin yung amp head mo? ('59 Bassman, '63 AC30, Dumble, Mesa Boogie King Snake maybe?) haha
-
^yes we have but. I'm looking for the best approach I can afford. :-D
Also most of the time, I just travel using a motorcycle. A scooter to be exact for rehearsals.

hahaha dude. Syempre naman hindi ko na gagamitin yung amphead na dala ko if the available amp sa venue e real deal. Been dreaming of having an AC30 at home but the hell how can I afford it? HAHA.
Thanks sa share btw. It's just that I'm looking for possible ideas. I know that gear head guys here and othe people who's into DIY might share a good answer for this.

oh ok. hehehe. fair enough

Imo, bitin headroom ng 15w head on a bar gig. Siguro at least 30w. Better yet 50.
I currently have 2 amp heads. And i always curse them during gigs(unless i hire a roadie). They are super heavy.
Damn. I should've gotten a combo.

I'm guessing you're after portability and convenience but not on the expense of your tone. I know this is a different route but have you checked on those ZT Lunchbox amps?

You want to bring a guitar, a pedalboard and a tube amp head to gigs riding a scooter in the Philippines bro?
-
Dapat alam mo impedance ng speakers para match sa amp head. Usually naman kahit combo amp may sticker ng impedance kaso hahanapin mo pa at maliit ang letters. Yare na kung madilim ang venue.
At dapat may male jack ang speakers. Usually nakarekta na male jack sa speakers ng combo so tatangalin mo yun jack sa combo amp at isasaksak mo amp head mo. Ang problem di lahat ng combo may ganyan jack. Minsan closed back ba.
Actually better na bumili ka na lang ng combo o amp+speaker cabinet Hahaha.

Not all combos have a separate jack that connects to the amp circuit so that's a big gamble. Additionally you don't know the power handling of the speaker cabs that might be at the venue.

Masyadong alanganin ang amp heads kung dadalin mo sa gigs dito sa atin.
If you still want to go that way, my suggestion is get one that have a speaker simulated direct out na pwedeng ifeed sa front of house or console kadalasan din kasi yun mga ganitong units meron ng built in load (Hughes and Kettner Tube Meister 18, Peavey 6505 MH and Laney IRT Studio just to name a few)
Pero if you can be swayed into buying a combo, might as well get a used Laney Cub12R combo or even the smaller fender bass breaker series, that would definitely suit your needs. Not really that cumbersome since di naman sya ganun kalaki at kabigat.
If you're worried about headroom I don't think it won't matter much with the crowds and bars we have here since you can actually get by with "edge of breakup" or "pushed" cleans if you set your mind to it.

hnd naman. HAHAHA every practice lang sana. I'm just doing that to avoid traffic. Grabe din kasi ang traffic sa Cavite bro.
Pero kung di nga sya possible, looks like I need to aim for a combo then. 50watt combo? Your thoughts?

thank you sir. Looks like buying a combo amp is the answer for my question. :-D
