i,m really a guitarist but i also play the drums every once in a while.... who among you prefer having a muffler and those who dont? please explain y? pros and cons? hehe!! curious lang ako... kasi yung sakin meron muffler eh... pero pag nkikita ko yung kits nyo yung iba wala...

and dun sa mga walang muffler... how do produce the low, whole,  non bouncy sound?  tengs!!

i used to put muffling on stock heads (when i was young and cant afford to buy new heads) to eliminate the plastic 'boingy' sound.

actually there are no pros and cons, just preference. want deep sound and more low end? use double ply heads. want an open sound instead? use single ply.

oic, coz me, i use remo mufflers (yung may foam na paikot) .... what heads can you suggest me to put? and oh...can you also use mufflers in recording?

cant go wrong with remo pinstripes for that bottomy round sound. i think they are the cheapest you can get. evans g2 would be nice but way way more expensive.

bass drum lng naka muffle sakin. both reso and batter.
pag live nman tinatanggal ko.
pag sa bahay lng, lagay o-rings. pero nasasanay na ako na wala.

Personal experience, I have owned a cheap and good drumset.  For a cheap drumset with cheap heads kelangan talga ng muffling to give it an OK sound.  Nagiging punchy ang tunog nya instead of a "boing" na para kang naglalaro sa loob ng malaking water tank.  But with good drums, sayang lang kung i-muffle mo. Let the heads and drum resonate.

Muffling, ganda nga ng tissue and tape. it works and its cheap. Yung O-rings kasi masyadong pinapatay ang tunog.  Nagiging cardboard nga.

For recording, nababasa ko kelangan i-muffle kasi hindi maganda pagdating sa recording yung too much resonance.  No idea why pero yun ang sabi ng lahat ng nababasa ko.  Isa akong hanap na ignorante sa drumming.hehe.

o-rings kill too much overtones. masyadong patay yung tunog ng drums mo.

kung tissue, pwede mong macontrol yung amount ng muffling by lessening or adding tissue

you dont have to buy o-rings, kung may luma kang heads pwede na yun. i made an o-ring cut out from an old 14" head, the song im playing dictates when and when not to use it on my snare.

curious lang ako, kamusta na condition ng heads mo?

stocks heads can sound decent, if its new. ano ba condition nya? bugbog na? bago pa?

Opinion ko lang.. O-rings are good for room/small room overtone control.. pag sa loob ka ng room tas nilagyan mo neto.. killed ang overtones and it will sound solid..  then yung tissue paper muffling is good for adjusting/controlling overtones in an open venue or even a large room/hall..

mufflers lessen overtones. and yun yung gusto ko. kung wala kasi, ang sabog ng tunog niya. mufflers are really needed for toms. kahit sa snare wala. but i still prefer snares with mufflers.

pag may o-ring yung drums tapos pinakinggan mo sa open area parang lalagyan ng tubig yung tunog kasi patay yung tunog
