A few days ago ive chatted with a friend and i forgot na kung sino sa kanila and said to me na "magsasara na yata pipeline ah... alam ko ala na gamit dun" sabi ko naman sa kanya kaya pala wala ako nakitang gamit na dun.

anyways... hope sana someone can clarrify that

You only use a de-esser if the talent or artist has a problem with producing so many "esses" that becomes annoying.  It is the over-emphasis of the "esses."  The de-esser kinda tames the "sss" in the voice.

There are rack mounted de-essers as well as sometimes incorporated in an outboard gear with other functions like eq, compressor/limiter, etc.  It is also available as plug in in some DAW softwares.

sir kitc, question.

bt po parang sobrang linis tunog ng distortion ng gtara when i am recording direct sa computer? hndi live ung tunog or hndi sya maingay khet naka full na gain nya? (im using boss multi efx). pero pag sa ibang effects like zoom eh maaus naman ung tunog pag gnamitan ng distortion/metal/drive??

tnx.

Oooohhh... tough one. I think the GC guys are in a better position to answer this. It's usually down to the amp simulation algorithms if they are capable of recreating the 'dirt' when miking an amp. Obviously earlier algorithms didn't do this very well but the newer ones are getting frighteningly close, even taking mic emulations into account.

The thing about miked amps is the sound of the amplifier/speaker combination, the interaction of the speaker cone with air, mic positioning, and the quality and type of the mic itself. You can only do so much with numbers at this point in time.

mga sir, ano po ba ang difference ng active DI box sa passive DI, which one have better clarity sound na napoproduce. pareho ba silang pwedeng dumaan sa mixer, paki lagay din po ang routing starting from guitar up to the pc w/o external interface. Di me sure if ganito ba ( gtr > zoom 1010 > DI  ( act./pass. ) > mixer > soundcard> pc ).

a budget of 50-75k pwede na. sa home recording.

PC na around 32k
2x2 audio, 1x1 midi, 1x1 spdif interface
isang 25 na keyboard controller
1 pair 4" monitor
Isang behringer na tube preamp(mic200)
isang mic cables and connectors.

bilhin mo ng hiwalay yung mga softwares.

i would like to learn the basics for every recording program available. Sound input, sound output, plug ins, brush tools, sound mixing.. all the basics.

Start with one program and try to learn it inside out. You will find that the others are similar making it easy to go from one program to another.

Before everything, however, decide on how you want to go about recording. There are several disciplines that you could take up like studio recording, live recording, audio post production, sound design, and even foley recording. While there are similarities, each requires a specific skill set, yet all require one singular trait... a good set of ears. Not all require that you be a musician or that you should have musical skills (though it is a big help sometimes), but all require that you should have a discerning PAIR of ears.

Second, be prepared to bury your nose in some documentation. Read, read, read... If your interest is in mixing, pick up a copy of Mix magazine or go to some online schools like Bruce A. Miller - the links are in the stickies in this board. Once you've read that mixing article, go apply it so that you train your ears. Yes, we all know what we want to hear, but it's so much easier if you can identify what you need to do to achieve it. Like if you want to do that megaphone sound or old record sound on a track, will you know what plugin to insert or what frequencies to tweak? The more you know, the better.

Last, be open to experimentation. Most of the music technology today got their start from telecommunications. Some techniques were even the result of a lucky accident while working on a track.

I know the above sounds like going to school or something, but you shouldn't stop learning something new if you're really serious. Even I am learning something new everyday...

Usually sound effects for movies and video. Think the sound of walking through grass, sand or even a rocky canyon. Ever watched those "Making of Star Wars" docu's? Like who would have thunk that those laser blasts were part of a radio tower guy wire? Or that Chewbacca's growl was part bear and lion roar?
