just to add:

will there be a philmusic sponsored concert?

im hoping i could watch a nice gig with different music genres, with everybody playing very well.

pulp and NU gigs suck.. too much violence and jologs. you cant bring your gf in there without getting into a fistfight

Well just to satisfy your idle curiousity....

1) I registered the domain in Dec 1996. The first website went up in Feb 1997. The first feature was a photo essay by Eddie Boy Escudero.

2) Back in the day, domains were easy to come by, so I got lucky with this one. If I was into golf, this would have been PhilGolf.

3) Since 2001 PhilMusic has mainly been designed by Chette and Jim :-) Usually I handled the content and graphics and Chette did the information architecture and scripting.

4) A few notable people who have contributed to PhilMusic in the past:
- Lionel Valdellon aka Acid42 was managing ed for awhile
- Butch Madul (now with Bigfoot) wrote some articles and took some photos
- Quark Henares was responsible for the definitive Sandwich interview circa 1999 before anyone ever heard of them
- Marie Jamora interviewed Eraserheads for Natin99
- Mayo Uno Martin did a lot of cool interviews - he really had a way with words
- Candice Lopez did some pieces like our Slapshock and Chicosci interviews
- Claire Agbayani also pitched in
- Miguel Mari did some very cool graphics in 2000
- I took the bestest photos (hehe)

5) PhilMusic.com won 10 Phil. Web Awards from 1998 to 2002, or 2 per year for 5 years. In 2005 this site won a Phil. Web Award Hall of Fame and was thus ineligible from future competition. So I guess that makes us semi retired hahaha

6) In Feb 2007, the site will have been online, on and off, for 10 years.

7) The PhilMusic.com logo has been the same since Feb 2007.  Miguel Mari did some studies for a new logo at one point but I always prefered the old one, so that was that (sorry Miguel!).

At first I thought this place is more on trading and selling gears :)... but probing through each section reveals that Philmusic has more substance than selling and trading :).. I guess the trading and selling secion is just more of an enticement :)

Wow...I never thought Philmusic has gone places... and had achieved several awards "Kudos" :). I think that putting a section about the brief history of this website would give members the sense of awareness and would value more this website. Probably a recognition corner..just an idea :), Now i know why some people are hook to this place... :) heheheh. Not comparable but somehow this place reminds me of Rock and Rythm Magazine before when internet is not yet a convenience.. :), where every latest release of Rock and Rythm Magazine brings great anticipation for music lovers and enthusiasts.. :)

Hats off to the people of Philmusic.. :)

Well the site has evolved over the years - it used to have an online magazine format and the forum was just an after thought. That involved too much work. I prefer keeping the forum format around though because the content is all generated by the visitors, and it's more interactive and sticky.

I actually miss the online magazine format. It helps people like me who are out of the country keep up with whats going on with the music scene in Pinas. Those articles were really informative. I haven't been back in Pinas for 7 years now...so Philmusic's articles kept me updated.

Thanks Jim and the rest of you guys for Philmusic. Kahit wala na yung articles atleast I still get to keep in touch with great musicians here.

Merry Christmas sayo pare  :-D

I miss the pictures section... those were my favorites apart from the forums. The "picture of the week". (tama ba yun?)

But it's ok if it's not there anymore, I understand about the part where people download and use them illegally... wish it was still there though... sigh...

I don't know what that Melody del Mundo photo was, but I think I have the old Barbie Almalbis photo somewhere. Sheesh, she was only around 19 or 20 then (that makes her 29 now).

As for the "magazine format" as you can see by visiting www.philmusic.com --- it's bacccck.

I'd like to have a more web 2.0 user generated approach this time, like a slashdot or wikipedia. Anyone want to get a writer's account? We're testing that out. If so let me know.

Siguro give me until next week to figure out how to handle submission of content. Until then, use the contact form muna to submit your articles.

After that hurdle is over, I'll concentrate on bring the Photos back up. Wish me luck, sigh!

More like 11 years, because philmusic was originally a community on email -- it was actually a mailing list.

The domain name was also registered 11 years ago.

Yup, Chette the Internet historian is correct. PhilMusic started out as a mailing list hosted by iPhil in 1996. (para sa mga bata, isipin nyo lang na parang yahoogroups yun). So to be technical about it, the idea of PhilMusic is 11 years old. In a few years, PhilMusic will be old enough to smoke, hehehe

And then we will look like Kedy Sanchez's avatar:
