Last Saturday, my friend handed me an album by Julian Lennon (John's son) entitled "Valotte." I first heard the the title track when I was in HS. Never bought the album. Ignored it for a long time. I didn't know what hit me, but one day I asked my friends who are into business of buying and selling lps to get me copy of the album. After more than 25 years, I finally have the lp (textured cover and printed in Canada, in near mint condition).



Apart from doing the vocals, Julian played bass guitar and piano in this album. I'm not reviewing this lp here because I'm not good at that. Few words may be. Four out of five stars. 

I never thought he would lose the Grammy for new Artist to Sade. Pumatok din kasi ang Smooth Operator that time.

I like From a Window, I Don't Wanna See You Again & Nobody I know of all the songs that the Beatles written but played by other artists. And for me Bas Muys interprets it very well.

I hope we can complete the 3 sets this week. While waiting we may start thinking how we gonna do it..Will it be by sets, by songs, by groups or we will form a core group and call performers to join for particular songs.

Oh those 1993 Hendrix remaster/remix by Allan Douglas? Well...what can I say.....Allan Douglas had the nerve to make decisions on how to manipulate the Hendrix Tapes. Good thing the legacy is restored to the Hendricks family and the new remasters are very good.

The 09-09-09 remasters is well received by the public and the vinyl version is in the works. Di ko alam how will this be compared to Mobile Fidelity pero judging from the cds, this looks very very promising. I just hope EMI will be able to concentrate on the project now that it is threatened to close shop. YESSIR, MUKHANG MALAPIT NANG MAGSARA ANG EMI. One recent event is a shocker: Queen and Pink Floyd both left EMI. Queen in now in MCA wherein a massive reissue of their entire catalog is underway with that new label. Di ko lang alam saan lumipat ang Pink Floyd.

Which goes to show (and I will defend this to anyone) that EMI Studios especially during the '60s where the best studios in England. One must remember that the Beatles recorded their music on "substandard" equipment via EMI Standards. The top-of-the-line equipment was reserved for classical, MOR and jazz artists. The only rock act to record on studio one then was Cliff Richard and the Shadows. It doesn't help to that The Beatles were signed to Parlophone - at the time a minor label of EMI compared to Columbia (there are two Columbia labels then - CBS and EMI - how it has came to be is another story, PM me if you want to know).

What kind of Beatles LP to buy? Sa akin any country of manufacture will do as all of them sounds good to ok. Ingat lang sa mga locally pressed lps especially the PARI era reissues. A lot of the Beatles titles were already pressed with locally made stampers at the time kaya the sound is terrible. In fact I had a PARI era Please Please Me that I discarded kasi it is in MONO rather than Stereo as stated on the sleeve and label.

The remastered vinyl will be based on the 2009 digital remasters. We better check them out soon!

Tama si plasticsoul, any vinyl release of the Beatles is a good buy. The music is more important than the sound quality anyway - not that I'm saying that crappy sounding records is approved by me.

Naisip ko rin kaya lang naman niremaster yung CD kasi palpak yung 1987 copies. Wala ka nang magagawa sa Stereo Mix ng first two albums. It was not intended for stereo release in the first place. It was just demanded by the EMI office to release it in stereo.
The first two albums were recorded on two track machine kaya one track has the rhythm track and on the second track was the vocals and guitar solos. There is no way you can separate them further. Kaya ang stereo result nun parang multiplex. Puwede ka ngang mag karaoke sa first two albums with the band as your backing band.

How I wish na EMI reissues the entire catalog using the original tapes. But then......
