I'm not sure if this question is already asked in any way.. But I have a Roland TD4kp which I want to try to do a record on my laptop. I don't know what to do because of these factors:
1. I have 0(zero) knowledge in recording music
2. I don't know which things to buy, like cables for example(I don't know how does interface works, even its meaning is mysterious to me:eek:)
3. Software to use and editing
I know its a lot to ask but a few idea will surely get me a good head start. Thanks in advance!
Hello Bro, here are some tips and pointers to get you started.
1. Learn how to use a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). There are loads of options to choose from, but for starters, I think it would be best to try REAPER as they have a 30 Day Free Trial Period.
2. Learn the Basics of your selected DAW. it's best to work with a DAW if you have a dedicated AUDIO INTERFACE so that you have better options for recording and monitoring. Doing these using your PC Soundcard may lead to undesirable results and difficulties.
3. Your TD4KP has a MIDI Out capability IIRC, so getting a MIDI2USB Cable (there are a lot of sellers here in PhilMusic.) would really help you out to get better sounds out of your DAW and VSTi. The Drum Module sounds are not good enough to be recorded. they still sound too digital. even if its a roland.
4. Get a VSTi. a VSTi is a Virtual Instrument that your Drum Kit will "Trigger" to get better sounds from. Do a youtube search for Superior Drummer or EZDrummer to hear the difference between a Module Sound Sample and a VST Sound Sample.
5. Everything you need to know to get started is on youtube.
I hope this helps you bro. There are a lot of guides out there that will be helpful to you. good luck!
