Your Open Source Software Stack
« on: October 01, 2012, 01:58:34 AM »
Interested to know if there other musicians here with full *nix setup for recording and live performance.. (I may have posted this long time ago, just trying to revive the discussion, currently im finding it hard meeting someone with opensource setup from the country, hoping to find buddies w/similar implementation)

here's mine currently:

Rakkarack (http://rakarrack.sourceforge.net/) - effects processor
Ardour2/3 (http://ardour.org/) - multi track recording/mastering
LMMS (http://lmms.sourceforge.net/) - sequencer
zynAddSubFx (http://zynaddsubfx.sourceforge.net/) - synthesizer
hydrogen (http://www.hydrogen-music.org/hcms/) - sequencer / drum machine
jack (http://jackaudio.org/) - audio connection toolkit (midi mappings, device routings)
mixxx (http://www.mixxx.org/) - dj software

sample works on my sig..

people have been asking me why linux (opensource).. sold to the awesome latency and tweakability, being a nerd and all, i like it when I have total control down to the low level code up to my hardware controllers..

Thanks guys.

I use LMMS and Hydrogen for making demos. Was asked to do a talk on LMMS a few weeks back actually.
