Uy okay yan ah ! Some nice beaches nearby too. How about combining "survivor" with "rockstar" ?

Just a thought to toss.

+1 on the different genres. pansin ko kasi ung ibang genre left out dahil sa commercialism ng rock today. there are a lot of great bands out there who play jazz, blues (a genre that i really, really love), hiphop, rnb, soul, reggae, ska, etc. who deserve a cut.

yun nga lang problem is there'd be a seeming lack of coherence in the album. lalabas na parang sampler sha instead of an album. but of course, mastering might do the trick of making it sound coherent despite the different genres played in the tracks.

(subliminal message: pa-contribute naman kami kung hiphop/rnb. heheheh. :P)

Very easy, if you are skilled you go from Manilla WALKING over the plastic basura in the Manilla Bay to Samal, just run fast over the basura then you don´t need a boat.......

pwede!  we can also take from the podcasts like inigo said.  i was even thinking we could feature not just the musicians but some much talked about gear as well like, say, the baker or diezel, or elegee guitars para captured ng husto ang spirit ng philmusic ;)

i also talked to our friend shinji and he also likes the idea.  masaya 'to!  :-D

pero before anything else we have to get mr jim's permission first because the album will be carrying the PHILMUSIC name.

Hi Hazel - Just got around to reading the threads! I think the first rule of thumb for this idea is - please stop calling me Mr. Jim or Sir Jim or Bos Jim, just call me Jim ok. I think I posted that somewhere already that I freaking hate being called Sir Jim on the boards. It's already starts to sound like the office around here :)

Secondly, is this is a promo, katuwaan lang, or a for-profit venture?

I guess the third question has to do with the compilation theme - will there be name bands involved, is it strictly indie unsigned bands, what genre (hopefully there will be some jazz involved!) to concentrate on, etc.

We have a trademark application for PhlMusic, so any use of the PhilMusic name, logo, domain, etc. needs our official involvement somehow, otherwise the TM gets diluted. So if this pushes through and uses the name either Chette or myself will have to sign on as "exec producer", and that'll mean we do get involved and not as innocent bystanders either.

(I've already experienced enough grief with a group in Singapore calling itself PhilMusic SG and releasing a CD without my knowledge).

And the fourth question is - moolah. How much will be spent on recording and production, CD duplication, artist royalties, etc.

Is there room for a fifth question? I'm personally not a fan of the CD medium anymore. Will you allow for online distribution via online retailers?

So hopefully, we get some questions answered! :)

It's our turn now...

i think,sa dami ng musikero dito,...kayang-kaya

Hi Jim.  Good to hear from you.

initially, i intended for this to be for the sheer fun and love of it, but i think we have to recoup at least some of the cost somehow (e.g. production and replication costs, printing, etc).  the idea is to pool together regular forum members, record them, and release the album commercially.

re participating bands, jepoy and i kinda discussed about having professional as well as amateur bands in the album.  genre will of course be mixed.  heck i was even thinking of featuring a jpmb and bea lao drum duet (since they have been talking about this in the threads some time ago).   now the question, i suppose, is, will this be a musician's album, or a mainstream album ;)

i was thinking that, yes, since this is a Philmusic album, you and chette have to be directly involved with the project from start to finish.  exec producers, yeah.

fourth question, i have no idea yet.  a number of us have recording studios so we can distribute the work among those who want to participate.  re the cost, pwede naman after sales nalang siguro kung walang pang fund ngayon since initially we're all doing this for the fun of it.  this is also to promote camaraderie and to channel our energies into creating something good instead of argue and bicker like we used to the past months.  :)

re internet distribution, i spoose this will cut the cost drastically.  kaso  the album will be available to those with internet access mostly.  maybe we can do a cd version (limited copies, say 500)  and then electronic version ;)

everyone, feel free to suggest.  jim, i will repost some of the points i made earlier and hopefully you and chette can sift through them.

:)

idea lang for selection of musicians:

we can get 15 drummers from the drum forum, 30-40 guitarists from guitar central, 15 vocaists from the vocal booth, and so on and so forth ... then mix and match them to form project bands covering Philmusic featured genres (rock, jazz, classical, etc...)

idea lang

gano ba kadaming songs ang kasya talaga sa isang cd?  an 80 min cd couldhold as much as 20 3.5-min songs, right?  so we can have 10-15 project bands, then 5-10 pre-existing bands

I gues we should also start with this:

sino sinong studio owners satin gusto sumali (hopefully everyone, haha).  like i said, mahirap for just one or two studios to do this, pero if we distribute the work among many of us, sisiw lang to ;)

Hi Starfugger, i like to join the project but don´t know if the quality i can give in my studio is high enough for this project.
maybe i can do some "pre selection" for joining bandmembers here in the province of Bataan?
Maybe i can send you one of my studio recordings so you can hear if the quality is ok?

actually kung matuloy man i think the final say would have to come from Jim since he will be exective producer and overseer of the project :)  palagay ko naman most of us here have home studios except for a couple of forum members with major outfits.  sige lang do send.  :)
