6 pin 4 pin Firewire Question!
« on: July 01, 2010, 11:50:16 AM »
My On-board TI Chipset 6 pin firewire port suddenly stopped working. I still have another firewire port but it is a 4 pin port.
Question: Is it OK to plug a 6 pin device Profire 2626 to a 4 pin port?
My profire 2626 comes with a 6 pin to 4 pin cable. So I'm guessing its OK. But I just want to make sure.. Thanks in Advance!  :-)

The 6-pin port normally carries power to the attached firewire device, but since the 2626 uses an adapter cable, you could probably use it with the 4-pin firewire port. The tell is if the Profire has it's own power supply.

It does have its own PSU....   >>>and yes it would work for with the 4-pin firewire
