China Cymbal Thread
« on: June 04, 2007, 07:32:29 AM »
Do you guys know the counterpart of Paiste on Zildjian K or K Custom Chinese Cymbals?

Does anyone own a Paiste5,B8, B8 Pro or XS20  Chinese Cymbals? What can you say about the sound of these cymbals?

Do you think any of these chinese cymbals can match the sound of a K or K Custom Crash and Ride? coz i have a K Custom Crash and K Pre Aged Dry Light Ride.. I was wondering what chinese cymbal to go for..

To get your playing more forceful, hit the drums harder.

that's partly true. but there might be something wrong with your cymbal technique too.

the cymbal is very thin and trashy, but i think it's still very durable. it wouldn't be made if it wasn't built to last that long. :-)

And just like with most crash techniques and what's said in most cymbal 101 tips, it's always advisable to hit cymbals with a swaying motion.  Don't hammer it down.  Play with it gracefully.

Most China cymbals have thin profiles.  So if you want your Chinas to last longer, treat it and play it with extra care.

counterpart would be Paiste Signature.

Since youve got dark and controlled sounding zildjians na, go for the oriental china trash cymbs, testing mo yung 20 and 18 inch sizes, 20 is dark whereas is bright, theyre like opposites talaga but the 18inch is trashier, maganda rin yung A swish coz of the rivets!

I haven't tried other Paiste Chinas except what I own which is an 18" Paiste 2002 China type.  Its attack is not quite strong but has a smooth, warm and dark trashy tone.  So this doesn't sound gongy the moment you strike it but a nice "hhhaaaahhh" which is the character I like in a china cymbal.  Its flange is flat so you could mount it right side up or inverted.

Oriental Classic China =  Longer sustain
Oriental China Trash = Shorter Sustain

hey guys. i wanted to buy a new china but i'm not sure exactly which one will give me that fast trashy sound i wanted. I was thinking about the zildjian oriental but i don't want to limit it just to that brand. Got any ideas?

This might help:

As for me I can comment on the Orientals and Wuhans. The Oriental gives a more musical sound and a shorter decay for its size. The Wuhans depending on size will pronounce a short to long decay but is the trashiest I've heard. Attack on the Wuhans are just like Lion's roaring which is to my ears suitable for loud/metal/rock music. But on a more subtle scene the Oriental becomes more versatile but still bites like a big cat.

I can attest to that! i have a wuhan 18 lion china,, nung una ko cyang ginagamit, di ko tlaga malaman kung magnda ba ung tunog,, pero habang tumatagal at lalong nalalaspag at dumudumi, mas gumaganda ang roarrrr nya!! bagsik na tumunog hehehe..
