Reasons to promote OPM.
« on: March 08, 2008, 02:57:30 PM »

So, we should promote our own music, whatever happens. Don't be a crab. If you don't want it, then get your sh1t and get out from the country!

Kunsabagay with the pinoy artists covering songs like crazy, we can't call it "original" anymore.

Ditto ako sa Pinoy Music lang....

Teka, di naman natin sila kailangan sundan ah.  :-)

Panu kung ganito, may "Amerimusic.com"

Ninejuicyamerican : Let's put some "O" in American Music.

Insultedamerican : Why?

Ninjuicyamerican : Because the filipino's have it.

Insultedamerican : Wait, we don't have to follow them, right?

you completely missed my point.  :-D

ang punto, kasi yung pagsasabi nating "Original" Pinoy Music, parang may impression na nagiging defensive agad tayo. parang ipinagdidiinan natin na "hoy original tong amin!" when in fact unnecessary naman talagang sabihin pang original ang mga gawa natin since in the first place, artists strive for originality.

ayun.  :-D

"damaged culture" kasi kuno nag Pilipinas e.

Thus, our natural responses are defensive and overcompensating.

Blame the bulok na media ng bansa natin for our horrible national self-perception.

i think at this point we still have to distinguish between pinoy artists who are making original pinoy music, and pinoy artists who are just trying to be the pinoy version of *particular foreign act*. much like the 50s and the 60s where we'd have pinoy versions of elvis presley or perry como. i think being a 'pinoy artist that continously strives for originality' is a still relatively new movement (since it started in the 70s) in our culture and needs every bit of our help and support.

And by that i mean it falls upon all of us, as consumers to be responsible in our choices--not by indescriminately buying local cds, but by buying cds and going to gigs with regards to our own standards of quality and of course, personal preference. In doing so we help WEED OUT those who we think are unworthy of representing our identity as a race and culture. Because in the end, when visitors from the grimlap system excavate the ruins of our by then submerged country, the basis of our culture and lifestyle will be in the relics and artifacts that we produce and value.

+1

ideally, we at least try to make something that is original. pero siyempre blurred na ang konsepto ng orihinal.
