the style that works best for me is the 2 key tuning technique. mas even kasi yung tension na nakukuha ko kesa tuning with just a single key alone. same pattern pa din pero faster and easier, not to mention consistent yung tonong nakukuha ko. but then again, nothing beats a good ear, charged to experience that is!

sounds like a wood snare to me.. too dead sounding though IMO!

regarding sa skin, mahirap malaman kung anong exactly ginamit niya (with the video clip alone) pero assuming na ganyan siya kalakas pumalo, either double ply na coated or coated with dot (or reverse dot) ang batter niya; which leads to your final question's answer - batter yung top/reso yung bottom..

Good Day! tanung ko lang kung mga magkano ang REMO EMPEROR COATED '14 and REMO EMPEROR Clear '12 and '16 for my toms.?
This is the sound I want to achieve on my snare:
God made mankind, but everything else is made in CHINA...

Tip ko lang po ah, First: Turn the snare off, pag nakita mo na yung strands ng strainer mo eh parang hiwa-hiwalay that means na kailangan mo na siyang palitan, sapagkat kahit anong tono ang gawin mo hindi siya mag-poproduce ng kursonada mong tunog. Second: Maybe it's all about the head, in my opinion baka naman sobrang tight po ng pagkakatono mo or di kaya sa condition at type ng head. In my experience nakagamit na ako ng clear na head, it was a remo pinstripe 14", at kahit anong tono ang gawin ko, parating lumalabas yung "toung" na sound. Kaya from then on I switched to coated, pero it depends kasi to the user of what snare sound they like, wether it's "ringy" sound or real "thud". Third: It really is about tuning, kahit ano po ang gawin nyo kung hindi talaga tama ang tuning nyo talagang hindi po ninyo makakamit yung desired snare sound. Hope this helps.

Braders, been longing to this snare sound.
I have a Gretsch Catalina Maple 6''x14'' Snare Drum.
Hirap na hirap na ko, I bought an Evans Genera HD Dry batter and Evans Hazy 300 reso..
