I need help, I'm about to purchase a second hand Alto sax.

1) C.G. Conn Transition
serial: m247089 (247XXX is around 1931)

Mas dark konti yung sound compared to the Buescher below.

EDIT: Re-plated ito... Uneven and mababaw na yung engravings. Is this bad?

2) Buescher Aristocrat
serial: 465922 (i think this means it was made between 1965-1970 pero hindi ko sure hehe)

This one looks very new, walang scratches. Yung sound is brighter and mas matinis konti yung sound.

First post ko po ito! Looking forward to learning to play soon! Thanks in advance!  :-)

i would think that the older sax would sound better, but all things being equal, i would choose the one with the more correct intonation and easier to blow.

Sabi nung owner mas mas madaling i blow yung Buescher. Pero gusto ko rin yung pagka dark ng sound nung Conn and I like the silver coating. Being new to this, wala akong idea how to check the intonation kasi never pa ako naka play ng wind instrument. Also, kinoconsider ko rin yung rarity nung instrument. Same ang price nung 2 models.

when you test it , did  you use the same mouthpiece/reed set up?..it's one of the factors that affects the sound etc...,...for me, i'll go for the conn, pero replated ba talaga?..hmmmmmm.....suggestion ko,....have a pro evaluate /play test it for you,(using same pc/reed setup) then you decide,it's still personal choice ........

If you're looking for a sound quality, go for the Conn brand, but still have someone to test it for you. Please note that some of these vintage instrument without hardcase have neck bent down or nakayuko kahit slight lang and a relacquered instrument may cause poor quality of sound.

Still up to you, baka rin na replate dahil may mga hidden soldered parts, beware!

Arg, sobrang nagsisisi ako i didnt bring a camera. I inspected it well, I think wala pong resoldered parts.

The Buescher looks very well maintained, and ironically yun ang nagpapaworry sakin. Parang hindi sya gamit na gamit, which makes me think na baka may hidden problem sya that kept the owner from playing it often, like an intonation problem.

Magkano ang asking price ng seller? Nasabi mo both sax have same price, tenor or alto?

i have a naked lady tenor and a new wonder ("chu") and both of them have rolled tone holes.

rolled tone holes ba yung Cg conn?

conn naked lady yung tenor sax ko. i like the sound of this vintage sax, even if i have trouble with the G# sometimes, but i love it anyway.

post some pics bro  :-D

Hindi replated yung Buescher. I'm hoping na well maintained lang sya, and walang problema sa kanya.

Conn 10m (naked lady) double bar ang bell key guard niya (rare).
Selmer Soloist C* rubber mouthpiece.

Sayang di ako marunong mag post ng pics. Di ko mahanp "photobucket".
Matutunan ko rin ito eventually. Practice makes perfect. Haha

Bro,
Now i suggest you go for Buescher...kung replated na ang conn, then di na clear ang pangalan, sayang lang...maybe darker ang tunog dahil sa kapal ng replating..sa buescher you can make it darker with any low baffle mouthpiece you can use...kung sabi mo di eto replated..original condition...then eto na lang...if you want to resell it in the future , ok pa.. kesa sa vintage na gamit na gamit at replated pa...
anyway..check it here too..

www.vintagesax.com (suggestion lang.....)

I trust Mang Pany....he knows saxophone...

Correct bro !

I found another saxophone, a Tenor

Yaganisawa Prima T4
Serial 00877684

This one is vintage. Based on the serial, I think this one was made around 1976... Not too many info about this one, except that it is an intermediate level horn. The seller wants P33,000 for it. No idea what it's really worth.

I'm buying my saxophone this Saturday. I hope I make the right choice.

Here's some info i know.....

"Prima" is a Yani stencil..
Prima saxes were intended for japanese market...
The company is "Prima Gakki Co., LTD" (Prima Musical Instruments Co., LTD)..
This company is a distributor of Yanis in Japan (but it's not the only one.)

It's like Leblanc Company - - for example  - - vito japan as stencil of YAS 23....

Prima T4 models came out in 1966...

You can also find Yanis w/ both prima & elomina engraved....

For me , price is just right.... you can resell it for same price or even higher (esp. here in the US) in case you want to part with it in the future...
