to throw my 2 cents in, actually, i think in general, kahit mamahalin na head o local trak head, masisira talaga pag over-tightened.
or at very least, mamamatay yung tunog ng drum/or drumhead, since overtightening it makes it literally stiffer and hence hindi na gagalaw yung head with the soundwave of the drum hit (forgive me for a lack of a better term).
and my experience with encores, hindi ko talaga makuha yung sound na gusto ko pag sa snare ko siya nilagay.
and, reiterating what has been said, mas ok siya sa toms or kick (though sa toms ko pa lang nasubukan besides the snare, never ko pa natry maglagay ng encore sa kick).
for toms, in my opinion medyo nasa gitna ng clear ambassadors and pinstripes ang sound ng encores.
