what can u say about this band? actually this band is one of my favorite...galing ng mga kanta nila mapa cover man o orig compo... tsaka matagal na rin sila sa industriya... magagaling din kasi nakukuha nilang vox...
-
Shouldn't this be in the pop forum? (there's no R&B forum so that would do)
-
ok sir jim... more on jazz din kasi sila eh kaya dun ko pinost...
-
Oo nga't kaya nina Jay at Butch at Tata mag-jazz, HINDI JAZZ ANG TOGS NG SOUTH BORDER.
R&B, Pop, Funk, Soul -- oo.
Jazz --- hindi.
-
South Border has a website.
http://southborder.pinnacleasia.com/
-
buhay pa pala ang south border??? :-o
3rd year high school ata ako nung huli kong pinakinggan 'to e.
-
This is one of my favorite local bands. World-class IMO. :-)
I've watched them live in Eastwood before, & even in live performances, ang linis ng tunog nila.

ipagpatawad mo kung ako man ay nagkamali....
pero yung kanta nila na WHEREVER YOU ARE... hindi ba jazz ang pwedeng iclassify dun?

pero yung kanta nila na WHEREVER YOU ARE... hindi ba jazz ang pwedeng iclassify dun?
It's a pop/r&b song, though the short instrumental part in the middle may have a jazz influence.

Hay, naku. Huwag na nating pagtalunan iyan. Pag-usapan na lang natin sila.
Galing nila! Gustung-gusto ko yung Luke Mijares (?) period nila. Sayang, di na siya vox nila. How would their first album sound if they did it with Luke? :-)
-
mga sir try nyo panoorin yung sa youtube nila JAMITABU mike alba on drums... :-D
-
southborder, one of my favorite pop/rnb band here in the philippines, they make good music. been very lucky to design their website www.southborder.net but now its under a new designer because i resigned from the company, sobrang bait pa ng members.

my opinion, i think their first album would sound much better if they did it with luke mejares.
-
-
While South Border is certainly capable of playing jazz and some of their tunes exhibit a strong influence, hindi jazz ang bagay na classification sa kanila kundi Pop/R&B.

hahahaha sir aya. naalala ko lng ung 1 post sumwhere here dropping sinosikat as jazz..
same answer :-)
In the same way as David Sanborn plays pop instrumental with bits of RnB and Jazz thrown in, South Border treads the same ground.
At baka ma misinterpret, that still doesn't diminish the band's cred in tightness and Lupit Factor.
Side Topic lang: When Tata and Jay teamed with Rancis and Mike (Alba) years ago, gusto kong lumabas ng venue at bumili ng blade - at hiwain ung pulso ko.
Lupeeeeeeeeeeeeet..

Ay, huwag naman bro. Wala na akong makakausap niyan about Shawn Lane. :-D
Ako 'nuff said: South Border is da shyeet! :-D

Wow ...South Border fan.
I am a hard-core SB fan. It started way back when Jay and Brix were still doing vocal duties for the band. lahat yata ng show nila d2 sa manila di ko na miss. I guess I just fell in love with the music.
Swerte na lang cguro that South Border's Duncan Ramos happens to be a very good friend and bandmate before he became one of SB's premier frontman. NOthing against Duncan though, I still miss the Luke Mejares era. It is the era where Jay Durias revolutionized the sound of the band and eventually layed the foundations of the phat, grooving melodies that he formulated to create the sound that we hear today.
Currently the band is in the US trying to spread the music and establish their fanbase abroad. With their caliber, its not far from reality. Durias, having that soulful ala Brian Mcknight voice coupled with his wizardry over ivory plus Vince and Duncan's hypnotic vocal prowess, the trio will set ablaze on foreign grounds. Lets just hope the US soil will provide them equal opportunities to shine abroad.
-
ei.
exactly. sir dc2005 i've seen their US itinerary and they've been going around bars and clubs with walk-in audiences (not the usual Filipino COmmunity shows) and let's hope the guys get the break. Now they sound so Phatt, ud swear you can smell the funk in their material, but I still am not into rainbow, though :-D
sir frog OT muna: Had a chance to LW Paul Gilbert and Shawn Lane's Let It Be (audio lang, Live). U heard that one na? :-D
-
@nancybrew: I haven't seen that, man. Malamang it's rippin'! :-D
-
ei, sir frog.
cge up ko tomorrow sa breaktime. audio lng nkuha ko sa Limewire but d ma browse ung host eh..hinanhanap ko ung free jazz thread baka na delete na?
Anyways back to SB, i must give props to Ric Junasa. He has Nailed Sanborn's feel on alto.
And also to Bagets Mendez drum solo on tha Album BUMP, that's before the track You Can Call Me All. :-D
-
yeah before the song BUMP... galing ng timing nya dun...
-
ei.
and +1,000 sa arrangement/ trick sa KAHIT KAILAN, a first in Philippine Radio (as far as i can remember), morphing Brix' voice into Ric's Alto.
Ultra Kewl.

Mahusay talaga South Border. I'm sure sisikat sila dun...
-
Amen. Sana nga they can get some headway breaking into the US market.
Breaking into a foreign market is no walk in the park... marami-rami na tayong artists na sumubok but with not much success. kani-kaniyang tago na lang para di mapahiya.
Go South Border!
-
but kapag soutborder...malaking porsyento na makikilala sila sa US!!!
-
any update or news about this band...
-
Jay Durias and crew are currently working on a new album.

Did you call for his attention? Baka may iniisip lang siya or busy during that time or nahihiya (yes, may hiya rin si Sir Jay). But believe me, super bait and approachable si Master Jay. I guess nami-misinterpret lang minsan ang pagiging suplado. :-)

syempre naman tinawag namin, pano naman ko sasabihing suplado kung hindi namin tinawag :-D but as you say, "he's super bait", so i dont need to say no more :-D

People often feel that we musicians are public property. As strange as it may sound, many musicians are surpringly private people. Personally, I don't like it when I'm thinking deeply about something (like a new way of playing over Cm7-F7-Bbmaj7) and a stranger comes up to me and tries to chat me up. Especially when said approach occurs during non-gig hours.
Especially when his or her first line is, "Banda ka?".

-
how do you explain bakit papalit palit sya ng vocalista?, me katagalan na rin naman south border nung huli binuwag nya banda hanggang si jay durias naiiwan me bago nanaman ba sya kabanda?
-
-
so sir aya sino na new vocalist ng south border?
-
Then again, I really need not explain. As they say, "The burden of proof is on the accuser." :-)
-
update?
-
naku. brix was the worst that ever happened to south border (next to duncan ramos and his winter cap).
jay durias is one of the geniuses of Philippine music! attitude? lahat naman may nasasabi. di naman kilala, hala eh mayabang lagi ang sinasabi. sus magsitigil nga kau.
