actually both, mas gusto ko kasi rhythm tone ni Scott Ian (Anthrax).

pero may particular Metallica songs na acceptable for me yung lead tone ni Kirk, yung tipong bagay sa theme/tempo nung kanta (e.g. "Battery"). :)

idol ko yan si scott ian hahaha yan ang guitaristang mas sikat sa lead nila hahahaha
nwei paul gilbert kase oA.finger sa haba well coz of his hight maybe
he is a all guy! i like the speed but the style no!!!!!

while tone is a hit and miss of tweaking with amps and effcts ,wahs etc...a great part tone is also generated by the artists fingers.
personally too much processed tone hides this inspite of the great guit playing like.....

and yes i agree,dont touch SRV,EC and BB :-)

I don't like Dimebag's tone (lalo na dun sa Cowboys From Hell album). But he's a great guitar player.

Since the album Fahrenheit, I started to dislike Steve Lukather's (TOTO) tone. His worst tone for me is on the Absolutely Live album.

Neal Schon (JOURNEY/SANTANA) - great composition, great band leader, great arrangements. But his tone for me is pretty shrill. And he is already using a Les Paul at that. When he was in Santana, you will know immediately if he was the one playing the solo - the one who has a sharper tone.

Vernon Reid (LIVING COLOR) - over processed. Tapos hindi pa malinis tumipa. Loads of times, he is just like running his fingers randomly on the fretboard.

Bob Hartman (PETRA) - too much midrange and no ooommpphhh! In the Christian Rock community, he is hailed as one of the best guitar players of that genre.

Johnny Winter - like Neal Schon, it is too shrill. But the approach to solos are still amazing!

Paul gilbert and Steve Vai. Masyadong trebly yung tone nila.
Don't become obsessed with sounding like one particular player and sounding exactly like him.

I like the John Pet's tone very much though when you listen to a lot of DT, you notice that the characteristics are the same but it has different "colors".

I don't like Vai's tone. It's too processed for me. Satch's is really emotionally wimpy for me. Dimebag sounds like the plague. Kurt uses to much gain. Santana lacks a bit sometimes.

ADAM JONES PA RIN! WINNER! HAHA

has anyone praised the tone of the new guitarist of The Dawn?  :?

well... i don't like his tone. and he uses the neck pickup too much when shredding, and it gets buried in modulation too.

he's got skill and good taste.. it's just that... man.. that tone.  :x haha  :-)
Paul gilbert and Steve Vai. Masyadong trebly yung tone nila.

Anong era ba ni Paul Gilbert yan? Laney era niya? Yeah his tone is not good there. he sounds better with the marshalls.

masyado mataas treble niya pre, lalo na sa Far Beyond Driven album. Wala ako makuha dun sa kanta na Strength Beyond Strength. Lalo na dun sa intro riff. The guitar tone sounds like one big chainsaw.

Don't get me wrong though, favorite ko rin yan si dime. He just needs to tweak his EQ, or use some tube amps. (kaya trip ko yung damageplan album niya, naka Krank siya)

He was still using his Randall's on the Damageplan recordings. He just downtuned to C# standard and Drop B and changed his tone to stay away from the Pantera sound.
