Alesis Multimix 16 USB 2.0

hey recording peeps!

i just bought me an Alesis Multimix 16 USB 2.0 mixer and it records 16 tracks simultaneously into my laptop which is cool...

how come though i am able to use only the lowest sample rate for recording tracks. coz if i use a higher sample rate may delay or echo yung tracks when recording? anyone can help?

Latency... maybe because the interface is USB.  Everywhere I read, everyone says USB devices (even 2.0) aren't fast enough. Firewire daw is the way to go.
