despite the lost of their main lyricist/ composer/ vocalist, i think it's safe to say that rivermaya will stay. they may not be on the top (yet!), but i'm pretty sure they're gradually working their way up. with their new vocalist up and working it won't be long. ok, ok, ok the new vocalist may not surpass the former vocalists, well, i think we all agree that no one can replace bamboo's vocal abilities or rico's captivating compositions, but jayson fernandez (you might want to remember the name) is something different. the first time i saw him playing with rivermaya, it actually felt like a "band". he fits in it. the members of the band compliments each other in a way that every member have their own niche but at the same time they also have a fair share of the limelight. let's be clear on one thing, although jayson holds the title of being the "main vocalist", all members of the band also have their own vocal responsibilities. again, proving the point made. jayson alone may not be able to resurrect the former glory of rivermaya, but with the help of mark, mike and japs, together they will.
oh, by the way, have you heard the new materials from the band. mark's "closer" and jap's "sugal ng kapalaran" really sounds great! "closer" has that experimental-ish sound combined with rivermaya's stamp of ingenuity. "sugal ng kapalaran" on the other hand, revives rico's anthemic compositions combined with mike's head-banging guitar skills! it sounds like nothing has even happened to the band, they've just got better.
