General Information:
Michi’s music encapsulates from “love” as its source, breathing balance between the good and the bad. Listeners are drawn to every key of her songs for they show the faces of truth – telling all personal stories experienced in life, mainly those relationships she encountered in the past, embodying the real and the human, which almost every person can relate to. Her first-ever song made when listened to echoes some of the frustrations and miseries felt during childhood, which stemmed from her belief that a planned ahead kind of life should be nothing but utterly perfect. But even though the ideal wasn’t met right away, the inspiration and drive to go on and create something that is meant to influence started from there. Thus, the walls inside her heart started to break, and the never-ending void felt was filled in by the glory of music, along with its magnificence, ready to be redeemed, heard, and felt by others.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

It was during high school days when Michi started to play in a band but considered it then more of a hobby. The first live performance she engaged in was with an all-female band they called “Lunula,” where she did the guitar and the second vocals part, mostly to cover songs while doing original songs on the side. But because most of the members of the group had other priorities to consider that time, it only lasted for a year. She decided then to form a new group “Falling Suicide” in 2006, with a music that was more of a rock experimental. In 2007, “Falling Suicide” reunited again into a group which they called “Freja.” They would usually do gigs everywhere, and even came up with an 3-track EP album. The group again disbanded and it was in 2009 when new members came in and from “Freja” a newly-crafted rock band “Freia” was born.

Freia” flourished and those days were the best time of their lives. The band became known in the indie scene and in 2011, they made it to the eliminations round of the Red Horse Muziklaban. But the success of it all didn’t just stop there. From the RH Muziklaban, they claimed another ticket that showcased their wonderful talents and made it to the Jack Daniel JD Set and garnered the top 14 spot. In that competition, they competed with other bands such as Paramita, Blue Boys Bites Back and Mr. Bones and the Boneyard Circus, to name a few...

TAKING THE FIRST STEP TO GO SOLO

Going solo was nothing but a big decision to make. Taking the first step was a bit hard, but she knew it since then that pursuing a solo career would always be something she’d have to take hold of. It surprised her to see how many people supported her and got her back in the new journey to embark on. The dream had always been there and a lot of courage was needed to finally embrace possibilities by standing on her own two feet to uncover one prevailing goal: to make her music known by many and to perform in big venues. From the style charged by a hard rock of “Freia,” Michi’s music now is turned into “Indie Pop style.”

WHAT MUSIC IS FOR HER

For Michi, music is life, and she can never live without it. It’s embodied in her heart and soul. It has been her source of strength everyday and it will always be a gift that she takes a lot of pride in. She will never have second thoughts on presenting herself to others, together with this precious gift.

Press:
“Michi Uy already expresses poetry in so many ways - from expressions, to guitar rifts and sassy lyrics. Watching her perform made me feel very small and honored to have worked with her. Musical genius.” - Jessie Mendoza, Smokey Tours
