Joe Satriani- Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards (2010)
« on: October 08, 2010, 05:04:07 AM »
Got this cd 2 days ago and i played it around 20 times already(probably more than that).

The latest release has 11 tracks but they recently announced that theres 2 bonus tracks you can buy online or in store "special"(you can buy from Best buy,Napster,Ebay or Amazon IIRC). Kinda lame because people paid for the pre-release of this album but the last 2 tracks isnt included. Marketing strategy probably(?). I got the one with the bonus track version if youre wondering.

My initial impression/s on this album are:

1. It reminds me of Post- Extremist era, think Crystal Planet,SBM,ITLIS,Super Collosial and PROF Satch record, where i THINK he played and make music more "loosely" and experimentive(dunno if this word even exist). No Surfing with the alien or Flying in a Blue Dream out of this world shred here, just plain melodies and moods.
2. Theres no "bad" track on the album. IE "I just wanna rock" or "Crowd Chant"
3.  Bonus tracks SHOULD be included in the album, theyre too good to be called "bonus tracks".

Favorite tracks so far:

1. Premonition- This track reminds me of modern rock, very radio friendly.
2. Dream song- Title explains itself-i got lucid thoughts by listening to this track.
3. Solitude- Feels like a "filler" track but very thought provoking.
4. Wind in the Trees- One of the best JS emotive songs ever.
5. Longing- So much feeling,no need for lyrics on this one.

All in all,i say this album tops Crystal planet and Strange Beautiful Music album and thats saying a lot. This is probably my second favorite album after The Extremist Record. Its a must have album for JS fans. Ill give it a 9/10.
