Verbatim Launches a Write-Once 128GB Portable SSD

(1/1)

mozart123:
Storage company Verbatim is launching an external SSD that doesn't allow data deletion or overwriting, turning it into a write-one drive for archiving purposes.

As Tom's Hardware reports(Opens in a new window), the Verbatim SWOVA128G(Opens in a new window), also known as the Long-life SSD, offers 128GB of portable storage, a USB 3.2 Gen1 interface for data transfer and power, and comes with a 10-year guarantee. Verbatim says the drive uses MLC NAND memory that has passed "strict selection standards" and can cope with temperatures of -35 to 55 degrees Celsius.

The write-protected state of the drive is controlled using software. If Verbatim's dedicated software isn't installed on the PC the drive is connected to, it's read-only. However, with the dedicated software installed, you can add new files as long as free storage remains, but no deletions or renaming is allowed.
