Anyone remember the Casio VL-TONE? I sure don't. But it's back in emulated form. The Casio VL-Tone VL-1 Emulator!

If anyone has the real thing that's still working, can you tell me if they really sound the same?

I just discovered this site by accident while googling the Korg Rhythm 55:

http://www.modarchive.com/waveworld/drums.shtml

Though this thread is about plugs and soundfonts, this site is a collection of free samples ranging from drums, bass, loops, and other instruments. There are some interesting vintage Roland drum samples there. Good fodder for the free sampler plugins in this thread, eh?  8-)

royalty-free orchestral samples.  as long as you don't intend to sell the original samples, you're good to use it commercially.

Most UK/European mags like Sound on Sound, Computer Music, Future Music, and the german Keyboard offer Special Editions of select software. I recently got Samplitude 8 SE from Computer Music, who usually include loads of samples, some of them as acidized wav.

more free plugins.  check this out:

haven't tried the UAD plugins, but user comments do indicate the antress compressor has similar GUI.  wonder how they compare sonically tho.

my mom still has it, in almost mint condition. if not for the oxidation. rust accumulated in the battery compartment. but still sounds great. i mean for its purpose and size. and yeah about your question, i had that VST before and heard it and it nailed the sound.

this is such a trippy vst.  hehe.  been tryin to make video game-esque music with it.  totally lo-fi zero-bit sound!  even the calculator function works.  hehe.

but i can't seem to control it with my midi controller thru cubase.  been tryin to figure out how to sequence with it.  it only responds to mouse control.  feel so stupid cause i really can't make it work.  hehe.

help sir kitC!

 :-) :-) :-)

EDIT:  just figured it out.  hehe.  it only works on midi channels 1 and 2.

Glad you figured it out, x! I've been steadily decoding my VariOS so I didn't have time to play with this one.

Thanks, soundslikebryan.

These vst's usually work within a host program like Sonar, Cubase, etc.; if your toneport has a host program that can load vst's, yes it will work but only in that program. You cannot port vst's into the toneport. Only specific hardware, such as the Muse Receptor allow you to load vsts and play them in realtime... without a computer (since it IS a computer in a 2U rackmount).

Tetra VST!
« Reply #96 on: April 05, 2007, 01:53:12 PM »
I just found this: Tetra VST 1.0a

Here's a short description: "Tetra generates a bandlimited quadrature signal, ie. a stereo signal whose harmonics differ pairwise by 90 degrees. By morphing between two definable timbres, Tetra can create a wide range of unique sounds.

Tetra was made using Synthedit. The sound engine isn't based on native Synthedit modules, though, but newly coded in C++."

Free Plugins for Mac!
« Reply #99 on: April 30, 2007, 10:35:04 AM »
For our Mac/PT wielding brethren, so you won't think I've left you out, here is a compilation of AU/UB plugins that should work not only with PT but with other AU capable hosts.

Soundhack also has some OSX freeware with some versions for windows. Lastly, some free RTAS plugins from Don't Crack.
