Hindi platinum yun, titanium series.

At isa ako sa mga dating not-so-proud owners non.  :-D

hmmm. the best so far na low-end na nagamit ko is the zbt pro series. i just dunno about the quality here in the phils kasi padala sa akin yun. and i'm proud to say, buhay pa ang hats tsaka ride nun. yun nga lang ang ride nya may cookie bite na hehehe....

Naalala niyo pa ba yung Zildjian Impulse series? Pag meron kayo makita, pakasabi nalang dito... bibilin ko!
Discountinued at rare na kasi yun. B8 Bronze siya pero mas maganda tunog kesa sa B8 ng Sabian...

you alone can answer your question bro since cymbal preference greatly differ from one ear to another..depends on the type of music you play etc. all boils down to what you want to get out of the cymbals you prefer..the best way to determine is to hit as much as you can and listen before actually buying them..

^^^ Yeah. Not too many people know that JB (or Yupangco) lets their customers try out their cymbals. Just ask for a stick. Marami lang talagang nahihiya magtanong.

Pero para sa akin, hybrid crashes & session crashes are "safer" crashes (can be used in more types of music), while ang dark crashes, namimili.

totoo ung about dark crashes, iba tunog. But to be fair, magandang gawing top hat. lupet ng sound. it was an 14" HH dark crash over a stock pearl hat bottom... ganda ng tunog, para sa akin...

Yes, all Zildjian cymbals are made in the USA (at their plant in Norwell, Massachussets, to be exact).

There are some very rare, vintage Zildjians that are made in Turkey (the Zildjian family's motherland/ancestral country), which are still in existence up to this day (and is sought-after by collectors).

You can check out Zildjian's website for more info.

Oh yeah that's right.  That Meductic, Canada factory used to be Zildjian's.  Now, it's Sabian's home base.

^ Watch what you're saying, my friend.  You might offend a lot of people with that...  8-)

Anyway, Zildjian has a rich history and tradition, a credible pedigree, and the expertise in the art and craft of cymbal-making.  A lot of legendary drummers in the world and a lot of great music were recorded using Zildjian cymbals.  So no doubt, these are testimonies to Zildjian being one of the world's finest cymbals.

Regarding its popularity, Zildjian is a legendary name itself, when it comes to musical instruments.  When a person wears a t-shirt that says "Zildjian", whoever spots it could think "Oh, he/she must be a drummer".  The brand name is that powerful.

To some, Zildjians are the best.  To some, it's Sabian.  Some prefer other brands.  To each his/her own.  Ganun talaga.  Personally, there are Zildjian cymbal models that I really like.  There are also some that I'm not really fond of.  Same goes for Sabians and other brands.

Different strokes for different folks.  That's how I feel.  And what others may feel, I'll just respect it.  8-)

let them be brother..for the youth do have the energy and enthusiasm which through time more mature people will have controlled..they will get there but let us not demean them for now..if you know your better than them even if they feel their the best so what? Of all people you yourself are the one who is aware of your true skills so no need to brag specially to the young ones..

let us inspire and not conspire against some of the over confident heart beats of the youth diba..nourishing and influencing them towards the right things would make our drumming community even better..

As brother JP said once said to me.."we have to pass on to the youth what we know for they will be the next generations of drummers..:-D

Here's a quick Zildjian/Sabian History Lesson...

Division of Company Following Avedis Zildjian's Death in 1979

Avedis Zildjian ran the company that bore his name until his death at age 90 in 1979. He left the company to his two sons, Armand and Robert. Though the secret alloy the first Avedis had invented in1623 probably was not much of a secret in the era of modern metallurgy, still the family business had moved through generations by transmission of this recipe to one individual. Armand and Robert Zildjian had both been involved in Avedis Zildjian Co. for years, and when the company was bequeathed to both of them, they had to take to the courts to determine how to proceed. The major problem was that they had extremely different views on how to run the company. Armand, the older brother, was in favor of modern technology and modern business management techniques. Robert apparently had more of a hands-on approach to running the business, and did not want outside consultants giving him advice. Robert also advocated making a lower-priced line of cymbals to appeal to young amateurs. Armand did not want to. Resentment between the brothers escalated to ferocious animosity. In 1981, the company split, with Robert taking the Canadian subsidiary. He renamed it Sabian.

Sabian continued to make cymbals in an old-fashioned process, with a large amount of skilled hand work. Zildjian moved in the opposite direction, filling its factory with computerized controls so that hand-work was at a minimum. Sabian agreed not to compete with Zildjian in the U.S. market until 1983. It entered the market in a fiercely antagonistic mode, claiming that Sabian cymbals were the true Zildjians, made by the ancient recipe. Both companies innovated, following the ideas of professional drummers and using well-known musicians to endorse their products. By the mid-1980s, Zildjian was still the leading cymbal manufacturer in the world, with a market share of about 40 percent worldwide. Sabian was in second place or close to second place, sharing the spot with a Swiss company, Paiste A.G.

1990s and Beyond

In the following decade, Zildjian continued to lead the world cymbal market, despite competition from Sabian. Sales stood at around $34 million by the late 1990s, with the total worldwide market for cymbals valued at only about $50 million. The company entered a new line of business beginning in 1989, when it purchased a drumstick manufacturing plant in Alabama. In the 1990s Zildjian grew to become one of the world's leading drumstick manufacturers. When Zildjian celebrated its 375th anniversary in 1998, it was endorsed by many of the leading jazz drummers in the United States. Zildjian also courted symphonic talent, working with a percussionist from the Boston Symphony to come up with a new line of cymbals for orchestral use. In the late 1990s, Zildjian's product line ran from tiny finger cymbals and low-priced cymbals for beginners to hand-crafted Ride cymbals retailing for over $600. In 1999, Armand Zildjian named his daughter Craigie as vice-president and CEO. He remained president and chairman, but it seemed clear that she would be his successor, the first woman in such a position in the firm's history.

Pareho lang magandang brand yan. But personally I use Sabian. I also like Zildjians, lalo na yung mga K Custom Fast Crash, A Custom Fast Crash. Pero with my skills right now, di ko pa maja-justify bumili mga ganun kamahal na cymbals. Biro mo crash lang mahigit 10K. The same with Sabians, di pa justified bumili ng HHX, AAX.

So, we go to the entry-level sets. B8 gamit ko. Anu ba katapat ng B8 sa Zildjian. ZBT diba? Halos magkapresyo sila e. B8 Pro naman is ZBT Pro dba? Just correct me if I'm wrong pero parang ganun sa palagay ko. At that price point, ewan ko kung ako lang pero mas maganda yata tunog ng B8. Well, a drummer friend agrees with me. I just don't know with others.

So ngayon parang I can't help but conclude na Sabian=More bang for the buck(?)
Tama ba?

Anyway... What do you guys think of vintage cymbals? Would you guys like to recreate the cymbal sounds popularized by drummers and bands of the 60's, 70's, & 80's?

@ Dindin - Thank you very, very much for sharing, bro.
I would love to own a 70's K  for jazz and old skul funk!

@Singlestroke7 - Sa pandinig ko yung B8 pro ang katapat ng ZXTpro ng
Zildjian..soundwise, pero sa price, I've no idea. :-)
