As an IT student... 4 years na akong nag po-program ... gumawa na rin ako ng program sa OJT with actual client.

Nag notepad ako, tapos saka ako naghardcode magisa, hours later, ayun. tapos.

Malaking tulong sakin ang DW simula last sem and ngayon hahah 97 ako sa web subj namin -_-

sino po dito marunong ng python? kaka install ko lang ng 2.7..

let the programming fun begin! hehehe

for the last 3-4 years mostly python ginagamit ko sa work for backend stuff. even sa system administration i'm trying to do away with shell scripts .. i've been in love with the language for maybe 8 years kaso wala akong ma-hire na tao na marunong nito so i had to train a couple muna before i used it in production.

Sino po gumagamit ng PHP sa web programming dito? pwede po ba makahingi ng tips, pati na rin sir sa designing (HTML and CSS) kung anu mas maganda table or layers (tama ba yung layers yung may mga div?  :?)

for browser-based frontends and regular database access routines, mapa-internet or intranet apps, PHP does a great job .. i usually suggest to people that they find themselves a decent PHP framework like codeigniter or kohana then just go ahead and wing it by building sites .. learn PHP as you go, di na kelangan mag-enrol in any course or even those "learn in 24 hours" material (uso pa ba ngayon yun?) ... When you get stumped (you will) then just google/stackoverflow your way around it.  PHP may look daunting at first but it is still just a scripting language after all.

re HTML and CSS, personally i categorize them under graphics design and it's a totally different discipline. i guess kung walang talent dun, wag na lang pilitin. instead, just google for "css templates" or "css frameworks", marami yan merong commercial, meron din free syempre. these days i realize the ready-made templates often look way better than those that i ask to get done from scratch or even those that i'm willing to spend time doing myself, and i'm no stranger to graphics design as my first real business was a graphics design house. if the originality of your project's look and feel is a big factor, go hire somebody online. you'll be surprised what you can get with $10-50. now if you really, seriously want to learn CSS/HTML then realize that you might sacrifice quite a lot of your PHP time for it ... gone are the days when people say CSS/HTML "lang" yan, kaya na ng programmer yan ...

sir, IT student din ako, 1st year pa lang.magagamit po ba ang turbo c sa work? o kaya naman related po ba yun?

pagbutihan mo lang iho ... no, chances are you won't earn money with turbo c (unless in the future may freshman na magpapagawa sayo ng case study and pay you a beer bottle's worth :-D ) but still the programming concepts that you learn from C will be very useful .. someday kung gagamit ka ng languages like javascript, java, php, etc one of the first things that you'll hear yourself say is, "aba, parang C lang din pala to ah, only easier!" :-D

anyway, to this thread's topic ... i've been a software developer for 12 years and during that time learned 14 languages. i have at some point used 8 of them in at least one commercial project ... so that leaves 6 which to this day are listed under my "hobby languages" ... so yes, i am and will always be a hobby programmer

^^ nah my last "corporate online presence" website was 6, 7 years ago for a british merchant who sold asian-made furniture in the UK .. i also did a community website for his wife for filipino nurses working in the UK. i built a web forum from scratch for that one, ouch ... i just checked now at parehong wala na yung sites  .. back then pwede ka pang sumingil ng 30k pataas for a site "depende kung may database" and you can build 2 or 3 in a month ... then nagsulputan yung mga "your own website for P1000/month" and such. di ko na sinakyan yun and instead went back to business apps (by then i realized the browser was almost mature enough for it) and to this day that's what i do. i think the "online presence" market is even worse these days dahil sa facebook.

i also was a signature away from doing yupangco's e-commerce site kaso at the middle of it all nagpalit sila ng VP, and some other issues i can no longer remember. i got tired of all the meetings and dropped the whole thing. that could have been my last e-commerce site :-D
