Drum Equipment sa Plane/Airport?
« on: August 01, 2008, 01:07:03 PM »
Question lang mga dude, if I buy drum equipment or cymbals form say Singapore or Hong Kong, haharangin ba yun sa airport pag pabalik nako sa pinas? pwede bang i-hand carry ang items (e.g. 22" ride, hehe)? salamat mga dude!

To make sure call/check your airline and check for their baggage limits. Usually different airlines have different baggage specifications.

Nope. I hand carried a 18" crash once from Singapore. As in transparent plastic lang ang balot.

Im thinking hand carry ko yung 18" below then check -in yung 20" above or vise versa. Kaya lang i don't feel safe sa check-in knowing how luggages are treated

Im not sure also kung kasya ba 22" sa allowed na Box or largest available luggage pang check in.  Pero if they will allow me to hand carry a 22" size then surely yung 18" below madali magkasya even sa average size na box/luggage basta wag lang mag exceed ng weight limit.

i hand-carried a 14" x 5.5." snare coming home from canada about 2 years ago. weight and size limitations ang kalaban mo pag cymbal/s ang iuuwi mo.. i don't think a 22" cymbal can fit into the overhead compartments or under the seat.

If that will fit in your checked-in luggage, it will not be held by customs officers.

nung nag uwi ako ng cymbal from hongkong, hinarang ako at pina check in yung dala kong cymbal na 19" (nasa 22" cymbal bag siya). tadtarin mo lang ng fragile sticker ok iingatan naman siguro nila yan.

Nope they won't. Ang mga "fragile" nilalagay lang nila sa itaas ng pile, pero binabalibag pa rin. Buy a hardcase or put it in a DIY cymbal box with lots of pangsiksik.

indeed. if i were working in a dead-end luggage lugging(?) boy job, the most fun i could do is see how far i can throw something and see if it'll bounce or not. hehe.

hindi naman siguro lahat pero kasi yung pinsan ko used to work as a baggage man sa isang airport abroad, MAS minomolestya pa nila ang baggages na may fragile sticker. wag lang sana mapunta sa kamay ng mga pasaway tulad niya.   :-D

I went to SM last night and looked around for all the largest available luggage from cheapest to the most expensive ones. I tried them all with a 22" & 21" Cymbal i brought along with me.

It's sad to say that only a 20" would fit in safely without protruding through the edges. A 21" would also fit if it were placed diagonally but add another inch (22") and there's no way you could close those suckers without buldging egdes or close it snug at all.  :?

I also found out that the maximum "FREE" weight limit for Check-in luggage to & from USA has been reduced to 50 Lbs. Hand carry limit is 30 Lbs 15" x23" max size.  :-o

When you think of the above numbers it seems to me they will not translate to a lot of equipment specially large & heavy cymbals  :-(
