Quitting the Hobby
« on: April 18, 2016, 03:58:30 PM »
Has anyone of you experienced the thought of quitting your hobby(toy collecting, music gears, bikes, cars) due to some various reasons? Reasons such as it's getting expensive already, no space for it, sooner or later you'll leave it here in the Philippines because you'll be living abroad soon, no time for it.

What do you do when you come across it?

Planning for a Band Rehearsal Studio business. Baka may alam kayong space for rent around QC area lang. Please PM me. Thank you.

I'm a newbie toy collector, and I specialize in collecting Hot Wheels, Gunpla and select anime figures, as well as my guitars.

I just got married, and my wife had moved in to the family home. I'd stopped collecting stuff about 6 months back, all because of space constraints. I haven't figured out where to put my stuff yet.

I stopped PC gaming, cold turkey. I just realized na puro hype ako, not knowing how much money I poo'ed already. Then I bought a ps4. Gastos naman ng games! Hay buhay. Last month, I went back with PC gaming using my work computer. Okay naman. I played really old games like 2-3 year old games, which was like 5-10 bucks nalang sa grey market. Oh joy.

some older games are more of a joy to play bro, i'm more of a legacy gamer myself, parang hindi kasi maappeal sa akin ang new games.

I've already quit a lot of hobbies, not sure kung ano talaga ang gusto ko sa buhay...

Guitar - I left the hobby because I want to focus more on my studies before. This was from 2002 to 2007.
Airsoft - ang dami ko ng AEG at gear noon, then I lost the interest because I was shifting back to music/guitars. Started from 2009 then back to guitars year 2010.
Guitars - Ang dami ng stompbox, gitara, nagquit na naman for the 2nd and maybe for the final time. Year 2010 to 2012.
Toys - Not a hardcore collector but I recently started wala nga lang space... so pailan-ilan lang.

I really wanted to collect comics now pero hindi ko naman kung ano storyline or arc ang gusto ko... plus readily available naman yung iba sa net.

uhm for me

Guitars - Not really a collector but I used to have 6 guitars I sold 3 already ang na iwan nalang sakin is yung Dean z79 ko and Epi explorer Goth, at yung yamaha ko na classical. (I needed the extra cash noon and aalis din naman ako ng pinas) I really have a hard time of letting go of my 2 explorers medyo deep na ang pinag samahan namin at marami narin ako nagastos sa kanila. I just get to play nalang my classical yung dalawang guitars is nasa case nalang sa loob ng cabinet
Effects -  Sold half of my rig plus yung ampli ko na benta na din. I don't actively play anymore nag kanya kanya na ang mga kabanda ko, trabaho pamilya.

Boxing - I have been boxing since 2010 pero paputol putol dahil sa schedule I really like it kesa mag gym. Nag invest ako sa magandang gears (Can't really actively box anymore dahil sa sched, workload, responsibilities sa bahay

Car - I have spent a lot already halos kaprehas na ng value ng auto ko haha. I am really into it pa din pero sobrang maintenance mode nalang ako dahil I got married and I have a child na din so  0 networth nako napunta na lahat sa mag ina ko.

Well to sum it up it all boils down to priorities :) Hindi mo rin kasi masabi eh at one point gusto mo to then biglang may mangyayari na kelangan mo give up yung isa. In my case Trabaho, Schedule, Pamilya, Ipon ang importante and life has been great! I got married 2 years ago, nagka baby kame last year, hopefully dumating na yung isa pang inaantay namin hehe pero lahat yang hobby na yan hindi mamamatay yan siguro medyo magiging less lang dahil nga sa responsibilidad.

I really wanted to get my self into car scale moddeling :) kasi hindi magaling ang kamay ko in terms of details hehe I have been passing by lil's hobby kada break time ko at gusto kong bumili para subukan hahah. And I though I was done with mini 4wds and gundam kits haha :)

I played not so old games like Shadow of Mordor, and Borderlands. Kaya di masyadong resource heavy. And I frickin enjoyed it. 10 bucks for both, ano pa bang irereklamo ko. haha!

ahh,

before it was, but I managed to overcome the sentimentality...now meron padin konti..pero sinasabi ko nalang "Ibenta na yan!"..iniisip ko nalang ang daming ng options to aquire new products and guitars to try..basta may $$$ madali lang makahanap ng replacement gear...of course..pwera sa mga super keepers..

naadik din ako sa diablo 2, necro build o ye!

RA2 naman not much, pero Yuri oo haha pag walang kalaro, apat na brutal enemy para medyo exciting

a while back, i was so into collecting art and was interested in going to art events. it wasn't a cheap hobby... buying/shipping abroad, taxes, getting it framed in a certain way, buying portfolio cases and special drawers, selling/trading with people and suddenly regretting it.

one day, my trusted framer ruined one artwork and it took about about 3 months of back and fourth hoping one won't sue the other and settle in the most amicable way possible. they eventually bought me a similar work at the same price, but after that, i'm just like, fuck this! i was mostly angry that i've been their good, regular customer, and it hit me -- those fckers! i fcking spent a LOT of money, just on framing!

i still have boxes and cardboard tubes and folders i haven't opened. they're gathering dust at the corner of my room. i love them, i still think they're beautiful, but i don't think i'm buying anymore.

i'm also possibly moving away soon, and i dont even know what the fuck im supposed to do with some of these. i want to downsize, but i've grown too attached to some, and at the back of my mind, i'm like -- what if this artist suddenly gets hit by a bus??? the value is gonna go through the roof!

Im lucky the things I got hooked on when I was a kid isnt based on technology thats easily obsolete...I found out the things that  make me happy and I enjoy doing when I was a kid are the things that I love doing now... BMX (just crusing the streets now, no more tricks), Sketching and Drawing (evolved to urbansketching) , Music (gear, gigging, guitars, band stuff)... Really great therapy to balance out lifes daily grind...
