do you shoot using full manual?
« on: February 04, 2010, 08:57:55 AM »

i know mababaw yung definition pero karamihan kasi talaga iniisip naka manual ka kapag may dslr e.

i dont shoot manually, never needed to, never had to. to others like me...do you think you are worthy to be called a photographer or just a poser (pun intended)

a LOT of pro wedding photographers I know use the Av mode. Those modes are their to make your life easier.
It's the the pictures what counts.... not how you use your tools.

Nagma-manual lang ako pag mag long exposure. Hehe. Laging Av (Aperture-priority) gamit ko. Di ko pa nga nata-try yung ibang modes (scene, Tv, Program, at auto) simula nagkaroon ako ng DSLR

Hangga't may hawak kang camera photographer ang tawag sayo. I agree with Phil, hindi naman bina-base sa kung anong settings ang ginagamit mo eh. Use whatever mode is comfortable with you. In our class madalas ginagamit namin Full Manual pero in practice, mga classmates ko iba-iba din ginagamit eh. Pero as much as possible I never use Auto & Program, well, siguro pag tinatamad, hahaha.

and i don't think it's possible to shoot in manual every time (basing from my limited knowledge).. i mean, i don't think it's practical to always adjust your settings in tricky scenes (like in a concert)..

i agree with everyone, they are just tools.. it doesn't matter if it takes you 30 minutes or 0.30 seconds in preparation as long as you get your shot.. tagal kaya mag-ikot nung dial pag manual tas you're going up/down 3 stops.. :-D

although using manual OFTEN is good kasi mas makikita mo yung relationship ng aperture, shutter speed, ISO.. you can also use it for zone metering..

i often use aperture priority then EV compensation na lang to adjust..

i use manual settings when shooting landscapes, or when i'm shooting subjects that aren't moving. but most of the time i use Av mode.

(since I dont use a battery grip just an extra battery).

i rarely use manual. i use shutter speed priority most of the time, but i make it sure that i set/adjust the SS to the point that the camera is forced to automatically set itself to the widest aperture.
sometimes i use aperture priority especially kapag maliwanag naman yung paligid and i want sharper images. i'd set the aperture at f/8-f/11.
i'd sacrifice on having a nice bokeh than compromising the sharpness i could get. 8-)

i use aperture priority most of the time when i shoot but i try to use maunal mode din. when i started photography (film ) puro aperture priority (Av) but now doing it with full manual. well basically for experiment purposes siya and kasama na rin yung learning experience. its fun to shoot in full manual mode but it will consume some time. but learning it for me is a must. :)

As what kawal said I don't want to sound like a pro din but yes, I shoot on manual mode. Since most of my shoots are portraits I need to shoot on manual mode.

I agree, using full manual mode is time consuming. Pero what if ang mga kukunan mo are: Concerts, Parades, Festivals?

Concerts, Parades, Festivals yes it can be consuming but depends how you set it.

But for everyday humdrum to exerting effort photography it works for me most of the time.

F1 photographers for example would always choose bodies with good autofocusing capabilities set to very fast shutter speeds. kung sports photog ako tapos manual focusing lang ako lagi, eh di nagmukha akong [chewbacca]. please wag rin nating isipin na komo manual settings tayo lagi, eh magaling na talaga tayong photographer. if someone would claim that he's really good dahil manual lagi ang DSLR settings nya, i'd give him a 35mm camera at tri-x 400. saka nya ipakita yung "mano-mano" na sinasabi nya.  :-D

I  do use full manual ,.using a restored 50mm f1.4 na pinamana sakin ni uncle. I have no option kc sa manual mode lang sya nagwork,.neither flash do not work .Good thing lang is maliwanag pa din sya kapag nag full apperture na ako. Mahirap din pla lalo na kpag yung subject is moving fast away  or towards sakin hirapan pa ako sa manual focus. Pero enjoy pa din. :-)

I'd prefer full manual. Especially, if you have the time to adjust the settings you want.

But I'm still relying on the auto focus of the camera. I'm still practicing the manual focus. Hirap kasi pag may pagkamalabo na yung mata. Akala mo sharp na, hindi pa pala. :-D
