mga masters mag tatanong lang ako ano po ba difference ng wood, steel and acrylic snare? confused na kasi ako

This thread should answer your question...

Wood vs. Metal snares
http://talk.philmusic.com/board/index.php/topic,52136.0.html

Regarding acrylic shells, its sound character varies, depending on the composition of the acrylic and the elements mounted on it (lugs, hoops, heads, etc).  But in general, acrylic shells are known for their great volume and projection.

ano po ba yung floating snare?

what do you mean? kasi may free-floating din kasi na snare..

a free floating snare has no hardware drilled/inserted into it.. kaya mas maganda ung resonance niya..

floating can mean na naka mount siya (from cymbal stands using clamps, etc.)..

may naiwan ba ako? :-D

makapal tunog.
Fat warm tone siguro   :-)

alam ko. base sa na obserbahan ko...
gawin mo muna  alternating(star) pattern. resonant mahigpit, tapos batter Mid tight, Loosen mo Snare wire..tapos fine tune.. malamang  FAT tone with good crack. ayos

kung gusto mo fatter tone.. tune mo batter medium tension....

ang nabasa ko, fat daw nakuha galing dun itsura nung sound sa audio waveform image..

yung waveform na sinasabi eh katulad nung nandito: (taken from http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/images/oreilly/digitalmedia/2006/05/blackbox-pro-tools_pop.gif)

kapag mas malapad daw ung image (mas mahabang time ang na-occupy dun sa x axis, fat daw yon..

so based dyan sa diagram, mas fat ung tunog nung mga signals dun sa green waveform compared dun sa blue waveform

so i think, generally, mas malalim ang depth ng snare, mas fat sya compared dun sa mga piccollo...

he hehe... sorry kung hindi masyado na-explain ng mabuti or mas naging complicated pa... hopefully ma-imagine ung tunog based dun sa audio waveform :-)

In general, that's right.  The deeper the snare, the fatter it sounds.

Well, you just mentioned the answer to your inquiry...  Depth.

Generally speaking, the term piccolo refers to a smaller form of a musical instrument, such as piccolo trumpet, piccolo oboe, piccolo clarinet, and of course the piccolo, which is a small flute.

In our case, piccolo snare drums are often characterized by a shallow depth of 3"-4".  These drums produce a quick sound in the higher pitch range.

i believe diameter generally determines the pitch. mas maliit na diameter, mas mataas na pitch... comparing the sound of a 14x14 tom and a 16x14 tom of the same wood, heads and hoops can hopefully give an idea of what changes when the diameter changes
