Home Recording (Bedroom Players)
« on: March 31, 2015, 10:00:04 PM »

was wondering if anyone is interested in an Home Recording thread na mas focus around recording nice guitar tones and focused around guitar in general.

here are some common questions: What VST plug ins are you using? what DAW? How bout Interface? Do you Mic or Line-in? DI Tracks? What Amp Simulators? And Cab Simulators? how bout Impulses?

So if you're interested to share your setup on how you record your guitars and manage the tones, feel free to post them here.  :)

I use Reaper as my DAW; Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 as my interface; I used to mic my amp but now I'm using different LePou amp sim and cab impulse sim. Samples in my sig down there.

i used to have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, sold it to purchase Tascam US1200. maganda talaga yung feature nung Scarlett na direct monitoring, now sa Tascam, i have to deal with latency.  :x

I personally use Ableton Live 8 for my DAW. Tascam US1200 Audio Interface, EZDrummer2 for drums, Amplitube for Amp and Cab sims, keFIR for loading impulses, EZMix 2 for more guitar tone presets and mixing presets.

I just got the Peavey ReValver plugin, will be trying it soon...it looks promising.

I used to mic my amp, but soon transitioned to pluging it in my interface from my pedal board whenever im doing post rock tunes for my project (link in my signature below). But when making metal tracks and covers, i DI my guitar and play with the DI tracks after. :D

Music stores carrying them are JB Music.
Pero IMO mas maganda kung kay sir PaoPao ka kumuha dahil di hamak na mas mura with the same item.

BTT:

DAW: Reaper (sobrang sulit na DAW, fully featured bang for the buck software)
Interface: Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 (mas pinili ko dahil meron syang extra feature na -10db Pad in case of very hot signals)
Mic Setup: Audio Technica 2035 + Laney Cub10
Cab Simulation: Torpedo CAB (Cabinets in A Box) - ayos na ayos at worth every penny tong unit na to.
Kayang kaya maghandle ng mahabang pedal chain at saka meron direct headphones out para madinig mo yun timpla mo.

Mukang dito mauubos oras ko this coming holy week. ^_^

I'm also getting hooked on the Recto (rectifier thingy) and the Hybrit amp sim. Huli yun tone-in-my-head eh.

Tama! Holiday at bakasyon kaya malamang tweaking with matching riffing na mauuwi sa bagong song idea to (hopefully).

Nice gears sir! Pangmalakasan! Kamusta naman yung Torpedo CAB? Ive been reading reviews about it...i am eager to hear review from someone who owns it...hehehehe

Dapat 2i4 sana ipapalit ko nun sa 2i2 ko. Kaso pagpunta ko ng MusiciansFriend.com, may Tascam US1200 sa Stupid Deal of The Day...hard to resist yung price! Hahahaha i'd suggest bisita kayo minsan dun sa mysiciansfriend and check kung ano yung mga stupid deal of the day...they have great stuff!

Can't wait to start the long holidays!!

In terms of impulses, I've tried very few, diko din kasi matandaan masyado yun mga nagamit ko, I've tried yun Catharsis IRs straight into LePou, and they do sound really good. Hahaha!!

Tinry din namin ng bandmate ko yun Zoom G3X nakadirect-in using Balanced XLR cables to Scarlett 2i4 decent naman yun sound, pero ang weird lang kasi parang walang epekto yun gain knob nun 2i4. Kahit isagad ko to zero, may signal padin na pumapasok, very weird.

Badtrip lang, wala ako multifx to play with.

Yap i had same experience with my 2i2 before...feeling ko kse emulated na yung out ng Zoom, malakas na signal tapos balanced signal yung pasok nya sa interface kaya what ever you do may signal pren. Idk i might be wrong.

Thanks sir! Pinagipunan maigi yun CAB and bought it from sir sherwin (spudmusic).
Ang default response ko is versatility and flexibility is the name of the game para sa Torpedo CAB.

Fender Cleans? This one can give you that
Vox Chime? Pwede din!
Metulz? This one has serious heavies

At the moment sobrang leaning towards ako dun sa 4x12 cab Calif StdC (Mesa Cab) simulation for heavy stuff pero before that ANGL (ENGL 4x12) Cab

For lighter and more rounded tones dun naman sa Vox Cab (nakalimutan ko yun cab name) very nice kung may mild overdrive (gamit yun OD pedal ko) for that breakup feel which sounds really, really good.
In terms of mic emulations naman standard SM57 yun ginagamit ko.

Kapag from pedal chain to CAB to interface never naman nagkaroon ng ganun problema.

Pod HD500 (Threadplate + (Cab & Mic emulation OFF)) + Torpedo CAB (Calif StdC) sa effects loop = bigat raised to 11.

Emulations or the real thing, you can never go wrong with an SM57 hehehe

I'd say go for it sir! Dika manghihinayang sa gagastusin mo dun sa unit.
Ang isa pang maganda dun sa unit is that it also has Bass Amps simulations and an EQ section both for bass and guitar
kaya kahit yun bassist namin dito nadin nagtitimpla ng tones nya kapag nagrerecord kami ng tracks hahahaha!!

And the best thing about it, is that it is very, very, very bedroom friendly.

Hahahaha!! Mukang malaking problema nga yan sir.
Hmmm might as well make the jump to Torpedo Live kung may amp heads down the line for you.

And I'd still want to make the CAB usable
kaya kung bibili man ako ng Tube Amp I'd probably buy the rack-mountable Laney IRT-Studio
dahil may built-in loadbox na sya at pwede din for re-amping.

Isa pa palang plugin na nakuha ko for free eh yun Two Notes Wall of Sound III kasama sa pag-register ng Torpedo CAB.
Its pretty much a VST plugin na ginagamit ko for Reaper kapag gusto ko ng multiple combination ng Cab+Mic setup for the guitar.
And I got it for free which is always a good thing.

NICE!!! Anything na ginagawa ng two notes talaga...promising! I have to check on that Laney IRT-Studio...sounds like similar sa Torpedo Reload.
