Nothing dulls your project guitar enthusiasm worse than the paint drying/curing time.  Still, WAG NA WAG kayong maiinip at WAG NA WAG kayong mangangati.  Kasi pag nagtrabaho kayo nang ganon, that's when you'll commit most mistakes.  8-)

I usually wait for 4-6 weeks after spraying the final coat before I start flat-sanding and polishing. The longer the curing time, the better.

Al, Ubersam,

What brand of spraycan do you use or had success with? I heard some brands dont dry easily.

Put it this way - the early Fenders used auto paint.

Some of the Fender guitar care products are made by Meguir's (sp), who also make car care products.

question...

1. is primer required kung lilihahin mo na yung body without stripping the paint?
2. ilang coat kaya ng actual color for it to be solid and also sa clear coat?
3. ano pong sand paper kelangan sa bawat stage?
4. san makakabili ng rubbing compound?? hardware o paint center?

...if im going to do a quick refinish... dat would take 3 steps... SANDING, PAINTING,POLISHING... tama po ba? anyhelp will do thanks... ahahaha

Ummm ok. Lots of info here but follow up questions

1. How would you know kung maganda preparation ng body? And how do you prepare it?
2. What kind of paint?
3. Whats a top coat?
4. What is "wetsanding"?

Thanks bro! :)

1.Preparation would include stripping of the old paint until you can already see the wood. From there you will be sanding it until a fine texture of bare wood is achieved. Application of wood filler, primer is next. Then you apply the base coat or first color. Then the color of your choice is applied. then the topcoat, then the wetsanding and buffing. Give the newly painted body at least a week of curing prior to buffing.
2. you can use automotive paint
3. top coat is the clear coat applied on top of the color of choice.
4. wetsanding is letting your sandpaper soak in water overnight prior to using it to sand the guitar body.

hope this helps.. 8-)

Kung "anal" ka, tatapyasin mo lahat and start from scratch.  On the other hand, puwede namang lihain yung buong katawan para mawala yung tambok tapos bugahin mo ng pintura.  The thing is, patuyuin mo ng mabuti muna iyan.  Though the top might look dry, sa ilalim niyan medyo hilaw pa yung pintura.  Nag-evaporate yung thinner sa top layer kaya natuyo agad pero basa pa sa ilalim.  Dapat maraming manipis na buga rather than a few thick coats.  At saka, malapit masyado yung spray gun/can mo sa body.  Let the coats dry well before putting on the next one.  Also, rather than have the body hang floor to ceiling, have it lie horizontally (you would need a bracket to do that).

thanks Jaco D. so pwedeng lihain lang mismo ung tambok basta tuyong tuyo na. mga gano katagal bago matuyo pati sa loob?

pag hinawakan mo sya, magaspang. ewan ko baka kasi dahil ginamit kong paint ung pylox metallic silver. parang may glitters glitters sya eh. pano ba matatanggal ung gaspang nun?

define "magaspang." i have finished guitars with sprakle finish before but i've never used a spray can, however, i think the same detail applies whether you are using a spray gun + compressor or the cans. the problem with sparkle finishes is that you need to be very careful with the distance at which you are spraying the finish because of two things: you want the flakes to vertically orient themselves in the solvent when it touches the guitar body (so it randomly reflects the light when viewed) and, second, you want to spray a thin coat which prevents the accumulation of the paint on the body because this stuff can build up very easily. application distance should be about 8-15 inches away from the guitar body and you should pretty much allow the spray to "fall" on the body. do not rush this process! application of the clear coat follows the same rule because you do not want the clear coat to overly flatten the flakes on the guitar. lightly apply 2-3 coats before the final sanding and buffing.

Yung nagbuo ako ng Warmoth Gecko bass ang ginawa ko one week between coats not only for the thin coats of poly to dry but to cure as well.  Di ko alam kung sapat iyan o kulang o sobra, pero maganda ang kinalabasan niya.  Dapat pasensiyoso ka otherwise masisira lang ang trabaho mo.
