describe jazz in ur own word/s...

I think that trying to "define" jazz defeats what jazz truly is. That "freedom" is something that is hard to put in a box & tie up with a neat little ribbon :-) Let's leave the "labels" for the marketing people: jazz, blues, fusion, country, pop, rock, classical, etc.

I've been soaking my self into this lately so heres what i found out...
It's not so much as what you play but how you play it and more importantly (imo at least) having something to actually play. It is also understanding (perhaps), to comprehend the intent in the sounds that we hear and the sounds that we make. It is a connection, where words are not sufficient or perhaps not actually required to touch others, you're just there and you understand though you may not be able to fully describe what it is. And at times I come to think of it as being both savage and sophisticated. But really I just go for the sounds I hear in my head as I play and hope that my fingers are capable enough to follow them through and as intentional and purposefull as I can manage  :-)

Louis Armstrong's famous reply on the definition of Jazz, "If you've got to ask, you'll never know." He at least implying that jazz is knowable, though not necessarily explainable in words.  :-D

But for me,  Jazz is the highest form of music.  :-)

"Jazz is maturity" being an audio enthusiast or music player... love for music is already in our vein the time we were born and as we grow older  it grows with us too, starting from listening to pop or bakya as some would call it,  then into a more heavier stuff like rock & roll and blues then later on you will find yourself listening to "Fusion" a blend of two music genre which lean more on pop and light jazz eventually entering into the world of jazz, others opt the comptemporary while some into a more diverse music such as avant-garde but was also classified as jazz.

For me the turning point of jazz was during the late 70's when the contemporary artist takes the route of jazz into a different level other than  bebop and mainstream, the heavy guitar riff and solos and complex drumming brings out the best of that style and migrating from rock to jazz is by no means an easy route then and now...
