From sharing their best photos online, members of the Philippines group in Flickr.com are scheduled to hold their own exhibit featuring a collection of captivating images, an organizer said.
Flickr is a popular online photo hosting service cum social networking service. It allows people from anywhere in the world to share photos and eventually connect with individuals who share their interests, not necessarily about photography.
Dubbed as "Ikalawang Banat: Flickristas@The Jewellery," the month-long photo exhibit will include photos of people, nature, urban life, and of ordinary objects seen from "a fresh angle," according to Jun "Jolengs" Marcelino, exhibit organizer and member of Flickr.com Philippines.
The photo exhibit will feature a portfolio of 80 images culled from 40 members of the group based in the Philippines and other countries, including Japan, Vietnam, United States, Malaysia, and Thailand.
"Digital file of the images were e-mailed to us and printed in the Philippines. So while it was not physically possible for others to join the exhibit, Flickr made it possible. It was an ambitious project really. Jolengs started it out. We had two months to prepare," added Bing Ramos, member of the Flick Philippines group.
The Flickr.com Philippines group has transformed from an online community into a full-fledged community of photo enthusiasts. It was formed two years ago by Filipino digital photography hobbyists. It currently has about 1,000 registered members.
Marcelino said the exhibit will be divided into two shows, each lasting two weeks and featuring different set of photos. The first show will run on January 1 to 15 and the second on January 16 to 31.
The exhibit will be staged at the Jewellery Gallery located at the second floor of Greenhills Shopping Center.
