May gumagamit pa ba ng camera with film?
« on: December 16, 2006, 12:50:19 PM »
Tanong ko lang? May gumagamit pa ba ng camera with film sa inyo?

Follow up question:   san ba nakakabili ng black and white film?

Follow up question:   In your own opinion, may possibility ba na ma-phaseout ang camera with films?

I would love to have a Pro 35MM SLR if I'll have extra money to spare. Iba pa rin ang feel at confindence ko sa film. Kaso due to convinience and market demand I have me and my brother have to switch to digital. We sold all of our Film. Puro how I miss our Minolta Maxxum 7 and 800si at siempre ang super bigat na mamiya RB67SD. :) Soon bibili ulit ako promise!

Posible pero matagal pa at marami pa yan...

I still have a canon prima sa haus, pero di na masyadong nagagamit. Mahal kc film eh.

According to our neighborhood photographer who used to develop our family pictures " Alam mo pag bumagsak na ang presyo ng mga mamahaling filters, lenses at gears ng conventional cameras. Yan na siguro ang indication. "

Sa UST, we are asked to use film cameras for our photo class.. i use a Canon T70 SLR..

medyo may kamahalan na yung B/W films like the Kodak T-MAX which is priced at 200 (Ata).. yung colpan pinaka tipid, 45 lang bili ko last sem, kaso ang hirap kumuha..

sabi ng prof ko, malapit na maging extinct ang film.. mahal na kasi compared sa digital.. at dumadami na rin ang digital cameras.. pero pang aral talaga, film pa rin ang the best.. kumbaga parang naghistory ka na rin.. and he said that the DO process and printing process is somewhat gonna be part of Graphic Arts* someday..

*Graphic Arts is a subject taught where we learn lithography, screen printing, stamp printing and other "manual" types of printing..

I think the last roll of film I ever bought was in 1998.

I started off shooting the old fashioned way, and I even went so far as to develop my own black and white prints (I had a darkroom at home). But lets face it, what made photography really expensive back then were the consumables - film and processing. That cramped your style. And if you amassed several rolls of film during a vacation, it would cost a fortune to have those rolls developed. I'm glad  I made the switch long ago and I never looked back.

Nowadays my darkroom is a digital one - Adobe Photoshop CS.

yup, ganun nga rin sakin.. pero yung mga camera tulad ng canon powershot A630, kaya ba niya yung ganitong shots? i mean, may settings ba na magagawa yung ganitong cam para sa mga ganitong shots?

thanks for the info :)

I started with a film SLR. But I would not advise a beginner to start with it today. You'd end up using a lot of film and processing is expensive.

Go straight to Digital. If you can't afford even a used DSLR at around 20K, by all means go with a non-slr with manual controls (I'm not going to call them "point-and-shoot" because they can get pretty involved).  For around 3-4 years I took that shots that I put up in PhiMusic using a Nikon Coolpix 950.

Actually, may tawag sa technique "yung blurred yung likod ng object mo tapos yung object mo malinaw" - that's called "shallow depth of field" and that's not a function of the camera per se, it's really more due to the lens. The bigger the lens opening (aperture) and the focal length of the lens the shallower the depth of field. So you if you're shooting with a telephoto lens, you get that "look."

You can also get that look using a prime lens with a large opening. The ever popular 50mm f/1.8 is cheap and great to start out with. Also great with portraiture and low light photography. The only drawback is that you don't have zoom functions.

The A630 is fine but I don't know if you can get shallow depth of field or portraits - try it at the longest zoom setting.

One reason why compact digital cameras have a hard time getting that shallow depth of field look is their lenses are so small - typically this only 6mm or less than 10mm. The advantage though is now you have very WIDE depth of field - everything is sharp and in focus, even the backgrounds. Since the market for these cameras is snapshots that's a good thing to have (for group shots, etc.) for a snapshot oriented cam. Most people wouldn't like "blurred photos" and that's easy to get with shallow depth of field which requires more precise focusing.

Anyway, why quibble, enjoy your new camera and experiment with it. I know I had fun with my old Nikon coolpix.

Yup coincidentally I just posted the photo of "Sweaty Chito" below... shot with a Canon 50mm f/1.8. It's my favorite portrait lens and very sharp compared to a zoom. For shooting gigs it's pretty handy to have especially when shooting low light, as long as you are reasonably close to the performers.

Higad, sample to-its ng shallow depth of field ulit. The subject in the foreground is in sharp focus, and the backround is blurred. The Japanese term for the blurred background due to shallow depth of field is called "Bokeh"... also see the patterns that the blurred lights in the background make. The Japanese love bokeh to death and lens reviews usually also review the equality of bokeh produced.

Its not easly getting Bokeh on a compact camera ... what I used to do to simulate it is use the "Gaussian Blur" filter in Photoshop.
