Register custom motorbike top boxes, saddlebags – LTO
Starting today, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) will require motorcycle owners to register their customized top boxes and saddlebags, such as those used by restaurants to deliver food.
In a two-page memorandum released March 15, the LTO said motorcycle owners with customized top boxes and custom-made saddlebags must pay a P100 registration fee every year.
Customized top boxes must be securely attached to the motorcycle; must not exceed two feet in length, width and height; and must not obstruct the rider’s view of the road from side mirrors in order to be approved by the LTO.
For custom-made saddlebags or boxes, they must be securely attached to the motorcycle; must not be higher than the seat of the motorcycle or scooter; should not exceed 14 inches from the sides; and must not exceed the tail end of the motorcycle.
The LTO, however, clarified that top boxes and saddlebags being sold in shops are not covered by the memorandum – so long as they are securely attached to the motorcycle, the top boxes must have a maximum capacity for two full-faced helmets and saddle boxes are not higher than the motorcycle seat.
