what's the best audio/speaker system for auditorium setup
« on: October 29, 2009, 03:58:30 PM »
We are using 2 big speakers in our church/auditorium. The sounds are echoing and reverberating around the room resulting in unpleasant sounds, oftentimes harhs to ears and embarrasing.

My idea is to put 4 satellite speakers (2 on each side of the hall) to distribute the sounds. I think small ones will generate moderate sounds and may minimize excessive echoing. (some people misunderstood it as ADDING speakers and not REPLACING them with 4 smaller speakers. well, it's my mistake for not elaborating further. my apologies)

I've search a lot of sites about this topic. I've canvassed different music stores to find some type of audio systems that would fit what I'm looking for.

Can any experienced audio experts here give me further advice? T. Y.

The place is 10 meters by 27 meters. All concrete, glass windows and wooden benches.

= Baka lalo lang lumala, because the "echoes" are still there. REMOVE THE ECHO FIRST.

= And what did they tell you?

The place is 10 meters by 27 meters. All concrete, glass windows and wooden benches.
= Adding another set of speakers can add another set of "ECHOES". The place is not that large, why not try ADDING SOME SOUND TREATMENT MATERIALS?

= Try to go over some threads here in Philmusic. DIY Acoustics and Soundproofing: http://talk.philmusic.com/board/index.php/topic,31588.0.html

= Research first. If you think you really don't get what you are reading, call some experts: You'll find them answering in the forms i mentioned above...

REMOVE THE ECHO FIRST.
Korek.  Also, always put the speakers in front where the guy or Pastor talking will be. Array the speakers so that they are spread to cover almost all of the spaces of the room, concentrating towards the middle of the auditorium.  Concentrate on speech frequencies; cut off rumble and frequencies you deem not usable.  Put fuzz or absorptive materials towards the back and parts of the sides in random fashion.  Forget sub-woofers and do not mic the back line including the drums.  Ask the P and W team to play softly.

Good luck.

address the acoustic problem first...try to minimize the reverberation.  and an acoustical problem can not be solved by an electronic solution.

is it a christian church?  when the band starts playing, do they go their own ways and play loud?

as you said its a big speaker, cut back on the lows.

for everyone's benefit, a picture could be helpful for more understanding of your situation
