Instrument mic: which port to plug in the soundcard?
« on: March 20, 2013, 08:33:03 AM »
I don't have a mixer/audio interface. I still don't have a budget for it yet.

I want to record some guitar lines by micing up my amplifier. Would it be possible to use passive dynamic mic directly plugged into the PC soundcard. And by the way, there are two inputs that I saw in my sound card. One is the blue colored port which is the stereo in. The other is the pink one which is the mic in. Which port should I connect the mic? And, would this be possible to DECENTLY record my guitar line?

And when the time comes that I already have a mixer (no USB connectivity). From the mic to the mixer then out to the PC soundcard, which port again will it plug the mixer to?

I just don't know anything much about recording and mixing yet. Hopefully you can help me with this (considering my budget to which I'm minimalist yet with these stuff).
