di ako drummer (bassist ako), pero particular talaga ako sa hi-hats at bass drum ... napapansin ko sa mga di gaanong magaling, wala silang paki sa bassline (especially sa syncopation). and for some reason di ko ma syncopate ang basslines ko sa hi-hat and/or kick nila.
ito yung clip sa isang fave drummer na naka-jam ko ... di gaanong tight jam namin (he was learning the songs) pero ang ganda ng kick drum. ganda ng syncopation with the basslines:
at ito naman.... same song, different drummer ... yung kick drum hindi syncopated, straight sounding. sa snare galing syncopation nya (if you still call it that), hindi ko gaanong trip, hehe (di talaga ako mahilig sa snare fills and offs). he was also still learning the song:
still, magaling pa rin, pero na-miss ko yung kaya talaga yung syncopated hi-hats and/or kick drum
and finally, ito yung first drummer... ganda ng song learning habits, pero straight pumalo. no syncopation (almost like a drum machine). medyo off lang yung ibang parts sa recording, especially dun sa snare blasts, and yung pagpasok ng chorus, but you get the idea i am presenting:
feel ko level up ang drummer kung kaya nya lagyan ng syncopation ang palo, whether sa kick drum, snare, ride or hi-hat. he can hit the exact same drum line but make it feel different through syncopation

Dynamics and manipulation of each smaller subdivision of notes of sixteenth or triplet feel. :-D Knows how to balance the mix in grooving and even he is doing syncopation stuff e napapagroove pa din niya. :mrgreen: Hindi for the sake na mapasok Lahat ng licks or sa term Nung iba e gospel chops sa bawat bara.

Baka idol niya drummer ng the dawn,hehe they call him 16 beat of the Philippines,hehe,yun lang at a Ginawa niya sa Lahat ng songs,hehe

Hahaha! Naalala ko to! UST days pa lang naten napag-uusapan na yan. I did some research pa non, and yes most songs nga 16 beats sa Hi-hat ang ginagawa niya. Hehe
Back to topic: I guess pag namaster mo na yung Great Hands of a Lifetime ni Tommy Igoe o kaya yung Secret Weapons of a Modern Drummer ni Jojo Mayer, maaaring nag level up ka na. Pwede...

Applied versions ng technique na yan,hehe,pero for me the musicality of Benny greb among the new drummers is a good way to look at what I want now.hehe

Pakiramdam ko nag level-up na ako sa palo pag yung dating mga kanta na di ko kayang tugtugin ay narealize ko na kung pano gawin at nagagawa ko narin. tapos sasabihin ko ANG GALING KO! :eek:

Kapag nagagawa mo na tumugtog ng kantang ngayon mo lang narinig kasama ang bandang ngayon mo lang din nakilala. At sakto ang mga palo mo na parang kabisado mo yung kanta at mga kasama mo.

The best way is to learn double strokes efficiently,then learn the Swiss army triplet na rudiments,then learn the straight 16th note version of the beat to learn where the bass drums fall the. Learn the shuffle. :-D

Madali naman Siguro Makuha yan pag sinunod mo ng Mayans bro,and Tama ang practice, Technically wise it's quite easy pero Kung pano mo papasarapin at dynamics ng shuffle yun ang mejo matagal
