Just need tips.
All of my bandmates have experiences already except for me. First band ko to na binuo and we are closing in on finishing some songs that are ready for road testing.
My bandmate wants to start off at Saguio (since may kakilala daw sya).
I on the other hand, feels more comfortable with the idea of starting from not-so-well-known bars, where we can play alongside not-so-well-known bands as well.
Hndi naman ako takot mag gig, hndi din ako knakabahan pero it just feels right for me to start small.
We're trying to create a sound that will stand out and will be unique in it's own way (although most recently, leaning towards mainstream altrock with catchy lyrics ang feel ng mga kanta nung nilagyan na ng lyrics and vocals ng lead vocals namin yung mga na sinulat ko which were songs I originally wrote and intended to become more of a post-rock/post-metal songs).
But what do you guys think?
Does it depend on our sound, style or tirahin na lng namin since gig na rin naman eh.

first and foremost, i'd make sure your band is tight. good sound, good interplay, and everybody knows the songs - you can only imagine how rare this is because 95% of bands suck, especially if they play original music.
anyway, when i am sure we sound good, i will look for a gig with the biggest possible audience. after which i'd make sure to get contacts from people who would book us more gigs.
in short: if you are good, go saguijo. if you suck or just wanna have fun, play in whatever bar. ultimately you will realize that playing in whatever bar and "popular original music" bars are the same; same bad/mediocre equipment, and same audience (family members, friends, other bands, and the regular bar tambays).

I guess based on your advice, and also on how I see it, I think it's best for us to start on not-so-well-known bars. Just to have fun, get the feeling of it.
On another somehow related topic sir, when our lead vocals announced that he already booked us for July in Saguijo (which was cancelled recently btw due to lack of preparation from all of us), everyone's pumped up to finish the songs immediately to be gigged.
I somehow felt sad, because now we are rushing to finish the songs and I really feel like the ideas that we have are not well-executed or will come out rushed. (or am i being too pessimistic?). Because I think we have a lot of potential to make good songs that will stand in their own merit, and as of now I really feel like I'm the only one who enjoys dissecting songs into bits and pieces. (or am I already overdoing it? hehehe!)
Is it okay to road test songs that are half-a**ed then just work on it next time?
Our lead vocals said he rescheduled us for Saguijo for August, but due to time restraints din, nahihirapan kame linisin yung unang 2 kanta namin.
Nasanay lng din po siguro ako dati sa church namin na dapat pulido lahat bago Sunday Service. (suki po kasi ako sa sermon sa music ministry leader namin nuon, hehehe)

It doesn't matter where you play. Just practice, show up, have fun, and take down notes after every gig. Don't overanalyze or you'll kill all the fun in the music. Good luck. :-)

I agree. enjoy mo lang yung tugtugan. tama si sir Incx, hanggat maari malinis yung tugtugan. ganyan din kami
praktis-gig, hanggang nasanay, from bars hanggang naka try ng open air gigs.

I agree with bluesy_pt. Play out wherever the hell it may be, as long as it's a proper venue in the sense that you have people coming in to watch you and listen to your music. Like mod IncX says, focus on being a tight band, and being groovy.
A tight band with grooves will stick to people's minds more. Even if your members can compete with Dream Theatre, kung walang groove or di kayo tight, wala din. Better na di kagalingan members but play tight, at least tunog kanta ginagawa niyo, hindi blender.
And enjoy the hell out of it.

it doesn't really matter if your compositions are already gig ready, as long as the band is. By that I mean, go ahead and play unfinished and unpolished songs, just make sure you play it tight and well. Kung yung kanta nga na narelease na sa isang record nag-iiba pa at nag-iimprove live, same thing with new songs. pag band setting, ang kailangang laging pulido ang performance mismo. compositions sometimes can take years to even get into a form that's okay to record. Take Dave Matthews Band's song Shotgun, penned and performed since 2006, and it still doesn't have a final form, or set lyrics for that matter. But even in its early form the band still played it tight, and that's all you need to do. Now if you think your performance is not tight enough, then elect to play at a less popular bar.

true this! don't drink too much din kapag first gig. aim to make a good impression para tawagin ulet kayo next time. i mean nobody
really wants to call on a band na nagkakalat lang palagi.

This is the most important thing that you will realize in our country's gigging scene, especially those that cater to independent/unknown musicians doing originals. So, keribels, tugtog ka lang kahit saan.

make an interesting, well edited and produced Music video..
Share it on you tube or facebook (where ever social media)
kung maging viral congrats!..kung hindi..ulitin uli for another song..
