As sir KitC mentioned, this issue is subjective.
What we can do is, choose your audio interface & usually, it will come with fair amount of Limited Edition (LE) DAW SWs that you can try out.
Cakewalk, Cubase, A.Live... etc... then select from there & upgrade to the full version. In which i believe will have some discount 'coz you have the LE version of it.
Or, some Computer Music Mags includeds DVDs with sample or even full version of freeware DAWs.
For some reviews that I came to read good about DAWs, i had selections between... Mixcraft 5, ProSonus StudioOne, FL, & ALive.
I chose Ableton Live. Primarily 'coz i've extensively used its Lite version. & just compared reviews from the latter.
Now, I'm pretty stoked with its non-linear approach to comping & the linear recording is cool enough for me.
