For me.. its Hotel California-Eagles.

well probably its because its so popular that old timers and new ones can like it..

i've been in a showband..and i play that song in every gig bout 3 to 4 times a week..hehehe..

i like it because simply it has a lot of kick and talagang trademark na siya..

stairway to heaven too..overwhelming siya..

well i really love steve vai but it was kirk hammett who made me grab and play the guitar.. 8-)

Its an old thread, but its always nice to hear what lit a fire under your ass...

... I recently got a copy of Larry Carlton's "Last Nite", and the "So What" solo (the whole track was improvised changed my life.

Seņor! I never thought I'd be reunited with this album in this thread.

Hahahaha thanks! +1 sa acoustic version of the Lord's Prayer on that album.

Taste over technique - though honestly - Carlton's technique will always blow us anytime of the day. I still am stuck with Room 335 though it has already been in our playlist for sometime.  :-D

I'm old school, and i won't be ashamed to admit - Rex Goh's solos with classic Air Supply kills, and the following studio guys that also kill in a span of four to eight measures:

Steve Lukather.

Michael Landau.

Dann Huff.

Their session works are all over the place. Google 'em.  :-D
Soli Deo Gloria.

Hey bro,

the studio guys will ALWAYS be the killers  :-) i'm on a larry carlton / robben ford / pat martino binge, and "Last Nite" and "Renegade Gentlemen" further affirmed my respevt for LC. A perfect mating of tone, technique and feel. I also got my hands and ears on "Sapphire Blue", pretty happening stuff.

If you can kill in a matter of four to eight measures, you've got some happenin's [gooey brown stuff]. Thats the goal for all of us  :-)

Also re-stumbled on Michael Lee Firkins again, he's commanded my attention.

Oh, cant dismiss Landau's solo on Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven is a Place on Earth". And Dean Park's on Clair Marlo's work (with the late great Jeff Porcaro on drum on the Let It Go album! )

In Yoda speak, "Real cool,  Mr. Landau is."  8-)

Michael Lee Firkins' phrasing is amazing.

Here's another head turner that changes us - and our practice regimen:

Martin Nievera's SWEET SMILE: Who is that?

Noel Mendez? Jack Rufo? Cesar Aguas? Am stumped.

Tuck Andress' version of UP & AT IT changed my excitement with the guitar into frustration
Soli Deo Gloria.

that tune flipped me out way before I even understood how to strike a guitar string!

I was in the 7th grade when my dad introduced me to Jeff Beck's Blow By Blow. He borrowed the cd from a local library and told me to "listen carefully".

What a trip! I guess he was conditioning / brainwashing me to mangle the instrument.
