Got email from DW:
"New Album. New Tour. New DRUMS! "
"After 30 years with the same drum company, I've decided to make a switch to playing DW. They're located right here in California, and I'm working with closely with them to design a killer, custom drumset to take out on tour this May. It's going to be slamming!" -- Chad Smith
We’re thrilled to welcome Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers as the newest member of our DW Family. Not only is he an incredible drummer, but we also consider him a long-time friend. The best is yet to come!
But why?

when you grow old you tend to hear stuff differently.hahaha
like vinnie. or maybe its the most practical thing because he said its near his place while pearl is in nashville

The only difference buying DW drums, all the drums are perfectly tuned. Unlike Pearl, you have to tune it. :|

Yehey. DW drums kill Pearl. Love mine DW. heh heh.
(Note: This is a biased point of view and take it with a grain of salt.)

In a price point, wc is more expensive? Say we are compating mid range pearl vs mid range dw?

My problem with this is I'm having a hard time thinking if this is even possible...I can't think of a mid range DW (comparable price point of view, that is).
Maybe a comparison between a mid range Pearl and DW's PDP line? Anyone can correct me anytime, di naman ako sensitive :-D

I wouldn't know. Mine is a Collector's Series one-off. But if its any indicator, the japanese in tokyo think that Pearl is the worst sounding of the Japanese drum brands. The best for them would be sakae.

dw performance series mahal pa rin and i dont think it qualifies as midrange. parang highend pa rin sya na hindi custom, 90k for a 4 piece shell pack last time i checked wala pa shipping.
now pearl vs pdp, i will take pearl sessions anytime over pdp.

Back to Chad Smith, I agree with you guys, maybe his hearing is changing or just a change in sonic preference. But my take is his switch is an economic move more than drum pride.
