iggy Marley headlines the MTV Reggae Fest By The Bay
The Grammy award-winning artist joins local artists in bringing the Reggae vibe to Manila
As the sun gets ready to bring the heat to Manila, MTV jumpstarts the season with a musical gathering that will mimic the breezy beach ambiance and serve up nothing but good vibes and groovin' reggae music. The MTV Reggae Fest By The Bay with Ziggy Marley is set to be the biggest outdoor summer concert of the season.
Set to get the groove going on March 24 at the Poolside of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel, expect to see a sea of people gather together for a celebratory night of jamming to the music of Ziggy Marley and the best reggae bands in the country. The first drum beat falls at 4:00pm with performances by the likes of Peacepipe, Milagros Dancehall Collective, Coffeebreak Island, Spy, Indio I, Reggae Mistress, Junior Kilat and Tropical Depression.
Ziggy Marley got his start in music sitting in on recording sessions of his father, rock legend Bob Marley. He went on to form The Melody Makers with three of his siblings, churning out eight hit albums and bagging three Grammy awards. In 2003, Ziggy collaborated with fellow musicians like Flea and John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Mike Einziger and DJ Kilmore of Incubus on his debut solo outing Dragonfly. His other work include standout tracks on the “50 First Dates” and “A Shark’s Tale” soundtracks. In fact, Ziggy was the voice behind Bernie, the Jamaican jellyfish in the hit cartoon.
It was with his 2006 release, Love is My Religion, that Ziggy Marley struck gold anew. He won the award for Best Reggae Album in this year’s Grammy Awards. This is his first honor for his solo work. The album features 12 tracks of songs that revolve around spiritual, social and political themes, all of which he wrote, played and produced in Ziggy’s trademark style.
