I don't exactly own a longboard, pero I've tried riding one. Mas beginner-friendly sya compared to the more common trickboard. At first, magdududa ka kasi mas-wobbly yung longboard kaysa sa trickboard, pero that makes it easier for beginners. Yung na-try ko na longboard is yung Loaded na brand. Sa skateshop kasi nagtatrabaho yung friend ko, and Loaded yung cinicarry nilang brand.

To begin with, nakakatapos ng G.A.S. talaga ang longboard... (my point of view). And extreme sport talaga siya kasi you can do a lot of things with it namely freestyle, sliding and of course downhill races. Ako naman, I find longboarding an alternative stoke to surfing kasi parang ganun din siya though mas maraming pwedeng gawin talaga sa longboard. Just pm me whatever you wanna know about the sport. I'd be glad to answer them as long as alam ko ang mga sagot sa tanong niyo. Just keep spreading the stoke!

Longboard rider here sir! Marami pwedeng bilhan ng longboard dito sa Philippines. Pero the one na may youtube link sa taas, wala pa tayong shop na nag-cacarry ng "Original Longboards" (original kasi yung tatak at hindi dahil sa original ang mga ito). There are a lot of brands to choose from, Loaded Carving Systems, Gravity Longboards, Sector 9 (Aloha boardshop carries these) FluidSurf (local brand but really good boards) and many more. Just pm me and i'd be glad to answer your queries as long as in know the answers.

eyeing for bamboo but a little stiff on pocket might get one of your suggestions
a good alternative for bamboo boards would be either of the fluidsurf boards or the earthwing ones. but i would go for the earthwing. not so pricey but will give you almost the same discipline in longboarding.

a classic pintail looks like a rocket ship or like a tear drop. the head of the board has more foot space than its other end.
well when you say loaded, its made of bamboo, meaning these boards are really flexy. the flex of the board determines how you carve the board when you are cruising.
there are 6 different kinds of loaded boards
1. dervish - all around board, good for cruising, freestyle, can go downhill, and also a good sliding board
2. vanguard - almost the same as the dervish but the vanguard is not a drop wedge, its a top-mount deck
3. fish - a shorter board, meaning a good commuter board, and its good for freestyling. most of the skateboarders there would prefer this one because of it has a nice tail.
4. ceviche - i believe this is a bit longer than the fish so its has the same discipline as of the fish but i like this one better because its has no foam in the tail
5. pintail - for me this is a good board for girls because its not that long compared to dervish but it has a nice tail wherein you can just pop it up and do some grab and throw tricks. its a good carver as well.
6. dancer - this board would be the longest of them all. it is built mainly for dancing (cross-steps, peter pans and what not) this board has an ample nose and tail as well.
i tried to contact the landline of skate of the nation but the line is busted, i might try to personally visit the shop.
might as well visit the shop. just go there around 6pm onwards because the owners of the store usually go there around that time. just look for BOJ (he knows a lot things in longboarding).

of course. when we speak of weight (of the deck) the heavier = more speed in downhilling.
but if you notice with loaded boards, a dervish perce has a different kinds of flexes. a flex of a board pertains to the weight of the person it can carry.
flex 1 = 90 to 140lbs
flex 2 = 141 to 190lbs
flex 3 = 191lbs and above

share ko lang: Last May, na aksidente ako sa longboard... downhill ako nun then huminto yung board ko sa bato (maliit lang), tpos tilapon ako... una nag land yung right-side ng body ko... sympre, bigalng tayo agad ako, then feel ko pilay yung right elbow ko, the pa check up and x ray agad ako... feel ko kase masama yung tama ko...then yung kita sa xray ko na may crack yung head ng buto ko katabi ng elbow ko.... need lagyan ng SCREWS (2pcs) then operation comes along... so on.... almost 2 months ako naka leave sa work and sa banda ko.... accident happens anytime kaya dapat ready tayo...kung pede invest tayo sa helmets and pads,etc... :-)
just my 2 cents... very enjoying talaga ang longboard, ingat lang palagi... :-D

haha! better try the highway in front of the B3 parking lot in highstreet... we also have a spot there were the road is lit werein you could do some freestyling. the best part of it is, there are tons of girls who kept on passing by just to watch you longboard! haha!

hi joanna! Im Mark, 17 years old. Nagustuhan ko magskateboard (ulit -I learned how to skate when i was a kid but i stopped after a week.) just a month ago, im learning it again and i really love it! I'm just new to this hobby, im still a beginner. I'd love to learn tricks :) for now im still working on how to land an ollie :lol: and im getting used to steering the board :)
Ibang iba rin kasi yung feeling eh, lalo na pag nasasanay at natututo lalo ako :) di kasi ako marunong magbasketball eh, di rin ako nahilig dun. But sometimes feel ko lang manood ng ganung sports.

hello jhoanna :-) if you're looking for a good place to spot/find skaters, the fort would be a good place to go. i'm into longboarding and i occassionally skate at the fort (high street area) and i usually see a lot of skaters there, both longboard and trickboard.
i like longboarding more because of the speed and the fluid/smooth glide i get that's similar to surfing. since it's not that easy to get the stoke of surfing (biyahe, budget) i get the same stoke from longboarding, matipid pa. i started out january last year (2009). after a few tries i decided to get my own board just to cruise and get the hang of it but it wasn't long til i got hooked-up and addicted. i used to cruise around our village now i'm cruising around town (las pinas) and every place i can skate in (alabang, la vista, sikatuna, makati, tagaytay, etc.). i take my board to work and skate on breaks. when my band went to singapore, i got my wife her own board but i was really the one using it the whole time :-D now i'm a bum and still enjoying the stoke and i never leave home w/o my board. skate for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.. ADDICT! pati midnight snack, skate pa din. tama si vendorboy, once you have perfected a trick the stoke is really uplifting and kilig to the bones.
the best thing about this sport is that if you are a skater, you would never consider this as a sport - it's too fun to be a sport. i also get to meet different people and so far every skater i've met were really fun to hang with and not arrogant bastards. if you really want to know more about skateboarding, you have to try it and if you really want to try it invest on a good set of gear.

@rockista123: usually yung mga kilala kong skaters hindi nga masyadong naglalaro ng mga usual sports like basketball, volleyball..etc. napansin ko yung trend na yun. :-D

napansin ko din yun na hindi sila masyadong active sa ibang sport. pero may kilala ako, nag lalaro parin siya ng football (soccer).
sa longboard vs. skateboard naman, siyempre mas mahaba ang longboard compared sa skateboard, and flat lang siya. pansinin mo diba yung skateboard naka angat yung nose pati yung tail niya? mas malalaki din yung wheels ng longboard para mas smooth yung ride mo. try to search the net for pics of the two, makikita mo.
sa tricks naman, mas common sa skateboard (or trickboard as yung tawag ng ibang longboarders :P) ang ollie tricks. they jump with the board and they flip it or spin it. longboard tricks are almost the same as surfing tricks. it is basically a surfboard for concrete.

actually hindi dahil longboard ay "long" na ang board. there is also the "mini" that's either as long as a skateboard or shorter but considered to be a longboard. the difference between the two (trickboard & longboard) is the ride height (trucks) and wheels. mas mataas at mahaba ang trucks ng longboards at mas malaki ang wheels. longboards are also not just "flat" since most have concaves (for carving) and some have a kicktail and a nose. my friends even make "mini" longboards from trickboards by reshaping the deck. sa tricks, hindi nagkakalayo ang dalawa. if you can ollie on a skateboard (trickboard) you can ollie on a longboard as well as long as it's got a kicktail. most people say that longboards are for old school tricks but actually creating/making new tricks is just endless. it's easier to do tricks on trickboards since it rides low (trucks) and the wheels are small making it easier for the skater to land the tricks. kumbaga e kanya kanyang trip lang yan. i used to skate on a trickboard but it can't get me around town. maliit na bato lang, bail na. sa longboard naman mas madali, the wheels are bigger and softer. kung maliliit na bato lang yan, it will just bounce away from you. minsan kahit lubak (basta di masyado malalim at kasya wheels mo) kaya din. i'm not saying that longboards are much better than trickboards or the other way around... to each, his own. parehas lang naman yan dalawa - papadyak ka, tatalon ka, masstoke ka at pwede ka din mag bail. kung san ka masaya, e di dun ka. it's all about having fun. :wink:
check out this vid, the guy's name is gerard cancio. he competed in the IGSA downhill longboarding event that was held in australia (i think). madaming magagaling na skater sa pinas and i must say he is one of the best.
here are more vids of the loaded ceviche - a mini longboard with a kicktail. it's just one of the many longboards that has a kicktail.

san ka sa makati? madalas din ako mgskate dyan kasi hinahatid ko misis ko sa ayala. anyway, madali lang naman matutunan. wag ka lang masyadong hot na hot baka maaksidente ka at mawalan ka ng gana mgskate. ramdamin mo muna yung ride then work on your carving. once na okay na ang balance mo, search youtube para sa tips and tricks. para ganado ka din, skate with a friend. enjoy

san ka sa makati? madalas din ako mgskate dyan kasi hinahatid ko misis ko sa ayala. anyway, madali lang naman matutunan. wag ka lang masyadong hot na hot baka maaksidente ka at mawalan ka ng gana mgskate. ramdamin mo muna yung ride then work on your carving. once na okay na ang balance mo, search youtube para sa tips and tricks. para ganado ka din, skate with a friend. enjoy
sa may pasong tamo ako sir hehe...san ka nagsskate sa ayala?? ang daming sasakyan kasi sa ayala hehe kaya katakot haha

I am a journalism student, and I am working on an article about skateboarding and skateboarding in the Philippines. I want to know more about this sport, its trend in the Philippines, Filipino skateboarders (who won competitions), etc...
I want to hear some insights to all you skaters out there :-) please tell me how fun and how different it is from other sports. I know some skaters but I want to know more from you guys. :-)

imma tell my boyfriend to get back to you on that..hehe. skater siya before. he stopped na kasi may fracture na sya sa 2 knees nya. he had to let go of dancing, track and field and of course..skateboarding. though i never saw him do tricks. i know he was good by the way he says it. and yung mga kasabayan nya before, magagaling na talaga ngayon. i'll tell my boyfriend to comment on this thread. peace. :-)

you can say nalalaos, pero hindi mawawala., or we can just use the term "umoonte" na ang naglalaro compare sa dati. Disadvantage nitong sports na to saken? Masasabi ko wala,, its a good exercise for me din., un lng, isa sa mga extreme sports to kaya ingat tlga ang kailangan., and i know na nakapanood at nakakita ka na ng mga bails., ouch un.,

try going to the skate shops in recto (not the fancy ones).. madami skaters dun kaya lang puro kids (no offense ment) na yata tambay.
Best compare the local "scene" today to (back then in) the 80's an 90's.
You'll here the some names like Jack, Castor, Boyet etc.. and.. i forgot the name of the dude that did a 50-50 (hand rail) in the Quezon Ave MRT station.
I think the spots in mendiola is still "alive".

nag cut-classes pa kame para lang makapag skate teh whole day, tapos after the end of the day, makasalo ka lang ng isang kickflip or makapag out ng boardslide, hindi ka na makakatulog at sigurado ako, youll be craving for more
tapos habang tumatagal nakikita mo na yung result ng hardwork mo dahil yung pinapangarap mong 50-50 or yung ollie manual sa platform na nakikita mo lang ginagawa ng mga tropa mo nagagawa mo narin
kahit matapilok, sumubsob sa aspalto, tumama ulo sa tubo, magkaroong isang damakmak na peklat sa paa... tuloy parin... hindi titigil hanggang hindi mo nabubuo ung trick na ilang beses mong pinag-puyatang isipin kung pano mo gagawin..
at ang pinaka-masarap sa lahat... pag may nagawa kang trick na isang linggo mo nang pina-practice... papalakpakan ka ng lahat ng tao sa spot :lol:

ahaha! tama ka jan brad, ive been there., ang saya saya mangulet at maging makulet, pero nakakainis dhil nde ka naman nanggugulo at naglalaro ka lng, papaalisin ka pa ni manong., well, wala tayo mggwa dun pre, kc property is property, yun na yun., kaya nga minsan, mas masarap mag skate ng gabi, kasi wla halos taong pipigil sayo., we even skate sa harap ng mga tall buildings dati sa ortigas., you know, typical stairs with handle bars,, good spot un!

nasira trucks,bumili lang po ako ng skateboard na fake mga 300php lang ang score sandali lang pala sira kagad.
ayoko muna bumili ng pro board, di pa naman ako marunong masyado mag skate.
ano po ba magandang skateboard na pang beginner?

nasira trucks,bumili lang po ako ng skateboard na fake mga 300php lang ang score sandali lang pala sira kagad.
ayoko muna bumili ng pro board, di pa naman ako marunong masyado mag skate.

ok lang ba kung fake deck and wheels muna gamitin tapos orig yung trucks?ang mahal ng trucks 1200-1700.tapos wheels 900, di ko lang alam kung mag kano ang deck, tapos bearings is 1200.

sir, antipolo based kami (paanan ng bundok)... fan kami ng flat land... though we have tried bombing hills. More to freestyle kami. sina na sir jimny and sir elegee mahilig sila dumayo sa fort and kapitolyo... but if you were to ask me, fort is the best place to board... ang asphalt dun is like cruising on a butter.

ako di na gumagamit ng riser pads pero nung beginner pa ako, gumagamit ako nun. low profile tucks pa gamit ko, semi-loose tapos 50 mm na gulong kaya me (wheel) bite-marks yung board ko. pero me mga kilala ako na ginagamit nila interior lang, mga 2 o 3 cuts, mas absorbent pagdating sa impact pero usually naman mga gumagamit nun mga mahilig sa gaps e, pero kung saktong street skate kahit wala na.
@didi: beginner ka diba? if i were you, mag set up ka ng 'genuine skateboard' i mean mga bagong parts. don't settle for cheap-a$s recreational skateboards dahil di ka matututo kapag ginamit mo yon. oo mahal, pero sa dami ng mga stores at online shops na nagsulputan ngayon, marami ka options. here's some:

no, no, yung balak ko kasi is makakuha ng information, yung tipo bang ako yung matututo sa mga experts, kung gagawa ako mahirap maipalaganap yun, plus tingin ko hindi rin eexpand. :lol:
dahil sa US nakakabili ng legit na SB's at wala dito sa Pinas. may thread ng chucks dito sa PM kasi available naman. isa pa, mahal ang SB. :-D
FYI, matagal tagal na pong may SBs dito sa Philippines, some stores have an official Nike SB account already.

Nah, siguro nasa line of 4k-5k, pero hindi pa naman ako nakakakita lumampas 6k. hindi ko nga rin gets yung basis nung price sa retail paminsan eh, some go as low as 4k while some aabot ng 5k, pero both naman are new releases (1-4months old).

ang ginawa ko bumili ako nung tig 500 php circa na skates shoes sa raon tapos dinadala ko nalang yun pag maglalaro ako para yun nalang lalaspagin ko
pwede na yun eh, heavily padded din, kaso nga lang kelangan mo lagyan ng ollie pad para tumagal ng onti :lol:

used to skate 3 years ago when I was at the US binigyan ako nung fil am friend ko ng dalawang skateboard; alien workshop at zero na may parehong venture na trucks at element na wheels. yung alien workshop sinira ko nung nafrustrate ako. yung zero, binigay ko sa buddy ko paguwi ko sa pilipinas kaso nabakli nya. gamit ko pa pang skate nun yung DC na skate shoes at vans na canvass hehehe. mga hiphop nga kasama ko magskate nun eh, dumadayo kami sa ibat ibang skate park. di ako gumaling, yung isa naming kaibigan amateur skater, sponsor ng hurley

Bukas na yung DC skatepark in Festivall Mall alabang. All the works! Hubba Stairs, half pipe, fun box, banks, box jump, spine ramp, steel rail, curve ledge, 5 ft quarter. Free entrance pero No Helmet, no skate policy.
Saturday and Sunday lang sya bukas bro, baka magpunta ka ng weekdays :wink:

I used to skate back in the day when I was in the US. One observation is that there are many huge skate parks there (Reno, Nevada). Bowls vary in depths. There are shallow ones and also those pretty scary deep ones. Of course, there were obstacles and ramps too. Also, there are numerous skaters compromising mostly of teens and kids; I mean literally kids maybe like 7-9.
Moving on, I have learned a lot since when I my friend taught us tricks -- which was an amateur skater sponsored by DC. Also, all of my half-pinoy friends were skaters also so that gives me somehow the motivation. Everyday was painful since I can't seem to accomplish dropping in to the bowl, and falling down everytime I fail trying to do a trick. But it was fun though :-).
When I got back here, I gave my 2 skateboards to my friend, who skates around at kfc buendia. Definitely missing those days as I read through this thread. All of it was just a memory. Music is my hobby now

i do play longboard mga 2 years ago, after my elbow incident huminto na ko pero naka display pa din yung board ko sa bahay. guys pls do wear helmet and pads for your safety, accident happens anytime. para mas ma enjoy pa natin ang pagalalaro :lol:

Mga masters, I used to skate before. Siguro 10 years ago na yun. Naglalaro ako nun sa may harap ng munisipyo sa Pasig. Nakalimutan ko na yung big names na naglalaro nun sa area na yun pero they're really good. Yung schoolmate ko sa Immaculada sa Pasig na vocals ng Fun City Boys, Si VJ kapatid si Monmon Chua, na nag-bronze sa X-games Asia, dko ko lang maalala kung anong year. US based na si Monmon ngayon and sponsored ata ang pag-skate niya dun. Mga taga Sumilang Pasig sila, marami din naglalaro dun na magaling.
I just used a Landway Deck, wheels, bearing. Tapos yung trucks ko Dart Tracker, not sure kung familiar kayo dun. Binili ko pa siya sa Boyz Toyz sa Recto. Dko alam kung nandun pa yun.
Anyway, I'm planning to start skating again. Ano ba marerecommend nyong brand/size ng Deck, bearings, trucks, etc? Ang alam ko lang na malapit na bilihan smen yung Aloha Boardsports sa Taguig, Stoked sa Ghills, tsaka Republic sa Eastwood. San pinakamura and maganda bumili?

Sana matulungan nyo ako. Tiga QC area ako at nagtingin ako sa net ng possible na shop na malapit. May nabasa ako tungkol sa Melrose shop sa timog ave. kaso mukhang mahal ang gears nila. 7.75 to 8 ang ideal na width, pero kung inclined ka sa mga flip tricks, mas better kung wider yung board mo. Hindi rin naman masyado malaki ang difference nang 7.75 saka 8, masasanay din yang paa mo after a few days of skating 8-)

YES! Thanks pre. I finally got my first skateboard! Dun ako umorder sa shop na rinecommend mo. Pero mejo lonely lang kasi ako mag-isa naglalaro dito sa village namin. Umaasa lang ako sa mga video dito sa youtube. San kaya may spot na may mga naglalaro din? Yung mababait din sana. Kasi naririnig ko na may mga skater na malakas manlait sa mga beginners. Sayang sa Rizal area ka pala, naghahanap din ako ng kalaro kasi wala na yung mga kalaro ko nung high school days eh. OK lang yan, individual sport naman ang skateboarding kaya kahit magisa ka lang oks lang, pero syempre mas maganda kung may kasama ka, mas madali kayong matututong parehas at mas enjoy. Hanap hanap ka lang dyan pre, alam ko madami ring skater dyan sa Rizal 8-)

Guys, may tanong ako. Ano ba dapat kong gawin sa sapatos ko na nagkaka butas? Kasi nagpa-practice ako mag ollie (dahil nga beginner palang) at unti-unting nagkakabutas ang aking sapatos. Chuck Taylor lang ang gamit ko. May magagawa ba ako para kahit papano ma-minimize ang paglaki ng butas? Isa pa pong tanong: Ok lang ba kung bumili ako ng skate shoes na "Class A" daw na madalas nakikita sa Recto? Medyo mahal kasi ang mga skate shoes eh tska mada-damage lang naman sila. Thanks! Sa mga tindahan ng sapatos nakakita ako neto eh, or kung gusto mo para tipid talaga, ginagawa namin dati nagka cutout ako nung interior nung gulong(yung vinuvulcanize ah, hindi yung gulong talaga dahil sobrang tigas nun :lol:) tapos dinidikit ko dun sa ollie area. Gandahan mo lang yung pagcut para hindi masyado pangit tignan. Pag medyo mabubutas na yung interior, e di magcutout ka nalang ng bago :lol: :lol: :lol:

Nagagawa ko na yung stationary ollie kahit papaano pero nung sinusubukan ko na yung ollie habang umaandar, pag tumatalon na ako, laging nawawala yung backfoot ko sa board. Kadalasan pa nga, sumesemplang pa :-P. Tips naman guys sa moving ollie. I really want to be good at skating. Thanks! :-)

hahaha!!! brad mahirap kase mag explain dito kung mag papa advice ka^^ practicelang ng practice ma lalaman mo kung papanong tamang pag ollie :D try mo din yung tama pitik pag sobra kase sa pitik at di mo na sundan ma iiwan at mawawala ka lang sa line at dun ka ma a accident^^

eg.. pag mag practice ka ng ollie pitik mo yung back pa atras then brush mo pabalik... or try to learn your own idea kung papano mo madidiskartihan pre :) pag nagawa mo na ng perfect ollie sunod mo practice yung kickflip:) ohh!! i for got pag na perfect mona pala yung ollie try mo naman habang umaandar ka mag ollie :)

thanks sir :D ounga eh dapat consistent ang pag practice ko mga 2 to 4 hours ako nag skskate board sa isang araw eh :-D isa na din yung nakakatakot ma bail kuwa ko yung pop at slide kaso di ko lang ma land backfoot ko nakakatakot kasi , parang feeling mo ma babail ka hehe

youtube nalang kayo, total nakakapag post naman kayo dito e, search kayo ng trick tip videos. andami don. meron run yung lumang tony hawk vid. search nyo 'transworld show me the way' mga pros nagtuturo.
sa ollie, 1 motion lang yan: pop, scrape, jump. practice muna sa flatground, then try ollie up sa mga sidewalk / gutter or humps, then sunod sunod na yan. tiyaga lang, marami dyan akala 1 week kuha na nila, hindi ganon. pag walang progress, quit na. kelangan ng disiplina diyan, parang martial arts. kailangan ng matinding na practice at dedication.

Basta, you'll only know pag nakatapak ka na sa board hehe...

Backyard, frontyard or even just inside the house (Concrete) but if you wanna do this with passion and really wanna do this for a long time. thanks oiljazz... 'zombies' na pala tawag sa mga parak na nanghuhuli sa thrashers... dati ata, monsters tawag namin, at kung anong matching uniform color nila, iba-iba kasi.
but i'm looking for some good area with good obstacles (street or ramp) where its nice to hangout. sayang di ako naka-gala for sk8ing time last Christmas, hindi kinaya maisingit sa sched..ehehehe... maybe this coming CNY...

Ah talaga? I cant carve camber and concave into hardwoods, i fear cracking by the grain. I rely on vertical lamination and glass for torsion strength and flex. But i want to try making foam cores sandwiched by carbon fiber, see how light i can make a strong deck

nagskate ako noong college... tuwing hapon.. puro land tricks lang ang ginagawa ko kasi takot ako sa obstacles gaya ng tubo tsaka rampa.. :-\
dati siyempre dagdag pogi points ang getup pag naglalaro ka.. dapat ang shirt laging may tatak gaya ng shorty's, blind, pig LOGO, etc., tapos ang sapatos.. vans, etnies, es, adio, ipath, lakai, etc.. lam mo naman ang skateshoes matatambok ang cushion.. tapos sa pantalon, ok na maski ano.. pero uso noon ang hiphop.. yung mga chinos.
pero ngayon.. halos lahat na ng mga kasama kong naglalaro noon.. maspinili na ang career. yung ibang hardcore skater eh nagbago na rin ang taste sa hobby.. nagbasketball, motocross, online gamer, photography etc..
siguro ganon lang talaga ... kasi kung sa abroad lang like U.S. yung iba ginagawa nilang career yung mga sports na ganyan..

i was a skater back in college. i have respect for all skaters kahit pa wannabe yan as long as theyre not being nasty to the neighborhood.
now im working. i see kids with skateboards in BGC and i say to myself, "enjoy it kid and hopefully you make it big someday."

Meron kang spot kung matyaga ka talaga mag hanap. Yung sa kalsada naman, may mga lugar naman ding aspalto ang road. Depende yan kung san ka nakatira. Yung mga ka-skate ko sa south, dumadayo talaga sila kung san may spot. Hindi naman sa lahat ng lugar banned ang skateboarding. Pag sinisita kami, karamihan gwardya, magalang kami na nagsasabi na hindi kami maninira o mang gugulo, at ok lang madalas kesa sa pinapaalis talaga kami, yung iba nga nakilala na kami, at sinasabihan na tigil muna pag may nagreklamong residente. Hindi ko pa talaga natry mag skate sa BGC, dahil nakita ko yung mga batang nagskate dun tinutukan daw ng baril ng mga jaguar.
@marzi, oo madami nyan mga matapobre, porket skater e, susme, mga half rin siguro ng skater mayayaman rin. Magastos kasi talaga tong hobby na to. Hindi ubra isang libo mo e.

i really get pissed when people say something bad about thrashers... and it's because they don't really understand the sport and yet they conclude that it's bad.
i skated way back elementary, high school & early college days... stopped & skated again last '09. (i sometimes wonder, why the heck did i stop skating... i know... life) and i can relate to those of you who get discriminated by these fickle-headed people who know nothing about skateboarding.
it only shows how most filipinos are... utak talangka. tsk tsk tsk.
yes, skateboarding came from abroad. but one thing i've learned from it that i still cherish is... being down to earth, humble.
skateboarding keeps us close to the ground, no matter how high we ollie. and keeping us low, makes you appreciate what simply beauty every landscape has to offer, that most people tend to take for granted.
keep skatin' dudes. it sets us apart from the rest.

nakakalungkot nga eh.they dont vandalize the streets of BGC naman.theyre just there because of the concrete and asphalt.and they choose the best spots wag lang mag cause ng traffic.

OT: ang labo nga nitong rule sa LRT/MRT na ganyan.. dati naexperience ko "non skate related" bumili ako ng pambatang trike(yung parang stroller pero bike siya) para sa pamangkin ko, di ko na pinakalas kasi nagmamadali ako so dinala ko nang nakaganun.. ayaw akong papasukin sa LRT balutin ko daw muna yung gulong, so binalot ko.. tapos sa loob nakakita ako ng bata nakastroller at mamang nakawheel chair, nabadtrip ako! anong pinagiba ng dala ko sa dala nila! mas okay nga yung gulong ko eh bago wala pang dumi! badtrip!

Kakasimula ko lang mag-Penny nung isang linggo, sarap lang :) Huling ginamit ko yung skateboard ko na normal 3 taon na nakalipas, eh di ko narin trip yung buwis buhay moves so ayun, bili ng cruiser. Ayoko rin naman ng napakalaking longboard, kaya sobrang solb ako dito, ang bilis! Hirap lang maghanap ng matino na spot sa QC dahil di lahat ng kalsada matino :P

Thanks dude! Kaso yung skills ko nawala, so re-learn ulit ako from scratch. Okay na kahit paano yung balance ko. Already installed the wheels with Bones STF 53. Yung bearings baka mag switch ako to Bones Swiss pero itatabi ko yung reds just in case.

about those Bones Reds... i had them in my setup, kaso parang hindi gaanong ok ang quality. baka dahil sa removable covers at madaling pasukan ng dirt yung ball bearings. kasi i bought it, and just after 1-2months, noisy & slow na yung wheels ko. then after doing some bearing cleaning, after 2months ganun ulit :-(
i'll be trying the Swiss. maybe its better. i remember in the 80s-90s, bearings were not that much of a deal, coz we easily get it from some bearing shops near Raon or Divisoria. we call it 'sil-bearings' then, coz its always silverish metal & very sealed.
and the only reason we buy/replace our old ones was if it was totally wornout due to heavy skating(panay acid-drop) & wet season skating :)

nice!!! matanda na kasi ako para sa tricks kaya cruising nalang trip ko, pero baka balik ako sa regular deck, natatapilok ako sa penny (or di pa masyado sanay)

Balak ko na din mag Swiss. Siguro sa next sahod pero magpapalit din ako ng board. Almost Double Impact kukunin ko. Ambilis mag chip at razor tail nung Flip at partida puro cruising pa lang ako hahaha!

Cruiser din from Paranaque. 10 years na kong hindi nagskate then 3 years ago nagtry ako maglongboard just for the feel of skating without tricks but hassle dahil nga long. hirap dalhin kahit saan lalo sa workplace. Just this month napansin ko ang penny board so i tried it. so far, so good naman. ok for cruising. burns calories pa.hehe. are there other cruisers there in paranaque?

im going back to skateboarding, but it seems that most shoes available today is not of the same quality as the skate shoes produced in the past (circa 2000) where there are shoes that is considered technical (padded, rubber ollie gaurd, air soles..etc)
mostly todays shoe are all vulcanized and just suede, which apparently wouldnt last long. also the classic vans, which is not really suitable for skateboarding since it will rip in just weeks of use (pro models are excluded)
luckily i have an old Circa 99 shoe model which I didnt use, and will just use now. it feels very durable
I also like the NIKE TRE ZOOM, that shoe is really for skateboarding and will last a long time. but nobody sells that anymore, and i dont know if nike makes it anymore. I didnt have had the chance to own one. those kinds of shoe is for skating.

however, i think the bowl bottom floor clearance between transitions are a bit far... those between the Jo*bee, Mc*o, In*el, & ay*la flat... it should be shortened a bit, say about, 1/4 the original. you can compare from your half-pipe.
just an input... since i enjoy riding bowls, to distant bottom clearance reduces speed.
overall, the park looks fantastic... i hope it materializes.

Yeah you are right there Sir Inot. The graphics I made is only to show a concept or an idea. The details will come later but with a big input from pros like you and the skateboard community. Its time that you get a place you can call your own where you can play within a challenging environment and safe from street hazards and motor vehicles. The place is currently a wasted space inhabited by homeless people and pockmarked with play structures in a state of disrepair and filth. If we can have it developed into a world class skatepark, enclosed yet free for legitimate skateboarders, with gym facilities on a lower level, refreshment arcade and a perimeter jogging trail then we solve one problem. Skateboarders can unite and demand from the government facilities like this because it is your right to have one. If the government can build basketball courts why not a skateboard park in every city?

Good thing there is someone like you, with the idea/plan to have this kind of park. Actually, it is best that there would be a proposal/plan, together with the specific details & have it presented to the govt or official for approval. Rather than requesting/complaining about it to the officials, and have no recommendations.
Me and my fellow (old school) skaters are from paranaque, and we are planning (on the horizon) about setting-up a park as well. Privately or publicly funded. But no technical plans coz we don't know of anyone who would be doing it... until it found your reply.
Well, i would surely share this to my sk8-m8s & let's see from here.

Depends on your location. If you're only looking for just riding I can definitely teach you. :) I normally do rides near our office before my shift starts, around MOA, pero minsan gusto ko din gumala at magpakatagal mag ride :)

I think it's just a generic trickboard na good enough for a noob like me. Sa tagal ko na hindi nakapag board, kapa-kapa ako ulit, sa kasamaang palad, bumagsak ako ng 2 beses, 1st- while trying to land a pop shuvit, akala ko kaya ko pa kasi nakapag ollie pa ko kahit mababa... Pero sablay, ayun, twisted ankle, inagapan ko na lang ng cold and hot compress. Hindi ako nakalakad for a week. Actually, hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa fully healed. 2nd- while cruisin' sa isang trail., medyo pababa at nag gain ako ng speed kaso, may tinamaan akong pebble... Ben tumbling ang action ko eh., galos sa tuhod (magaling na).
I'm planning to buy a "good" one in the near future., may nakitaan ako dito na naka trickboard with big wheels. Parang sarap i-ride. We'll see.
Post ko next time yung chipengpeng kong trickboard. :-D

ok lang naman generic na maple deck with decent grip tape,
sabi nga ni mike vallely Iga-grind mo lang din naman yun, advantage lang e protected pa ng graphics yung belly ng deck, at maganda sa video/photo ang may graphics :-D
ang "hindi" dapat generic e yung trucks para sa safety na rin.

I bought a generic skateboard last Feb. Di naman ako skateboarder talaga, parang, "wow mura, something new to learn kahit 25 na ako, I'mma get one." Tapos yun, practice ako ng madaling araw para hindi pagtawanan ng mga bata sa village namin. Mahina ang sense of balance ko kaya hirap din yung hindi mataranta pag gumugulong na yung board kahit apakan ko pa lang. Eventually medyo nagets ko na after 1 hour tapos nakaka 10 meters na ako sa isang kickoff.
The next day sinubukan ko naman mag kick para tuloy tuloy ang cruise. Eh pangit nga ang sense of balance ko diba. So bumagsak ako sa semento (while cruising, so sad). Ayun, syempre, dust off ganun, ok lang naman masakit sa pwet.
Eto yung clincher: patayo na ako nung nagkamali ng tukod yung right foot ko tapos natapilok ako. So basically I injured myself trying to stand up from the floor. :oops: :| :cry: It's been a while since I had an injury, so I went to the hospital just to be safe. I had to lie to the doctor at the ER though, on why I have a sprain.
Ngayon takot na ako ulit i-take up yung skateboard na nasakyan ko for 1 hour 45 minutes total kasi baka mainjure na naman ako sa katangahan ko. <_<
Oh, and BTW, should I replace it with a pennyboard or a longboard? Yung semento kasi ng daan sa village medyo malalaki yung grooves kaya tumitigil yung skateboard minsan, nakakatakot taasan yung speed. I heard the kind of wheels on pennies and longboards are suitable for less smooth surfaces. Ang reservation ko lang sa pennyboards, ang liit nila, baka hindi suitable sa sense of balance ko (or the lack thereof).

When I started skating, I also fell down, couple of times. And still falling now with some minor or major falls, hurting bones here and there. I guess in skateboarding, you'll never learn unless you fall. (just like most things in life)
Well, you will need to figure out what you eventually want to do with your skateboard. 1. Do you wanna just ride & cruise? 2. Do you wanna cruise & jump over some small obstacles while cruising? 3. Do you wanna cruise fast down sloped hills/roads? 4. Do you wanna do ticks, flips & jump ramps & rails?
answers or boards that you'll need for those above questions... 1. penny or cruiser boards 2. cruiser boards 3. cruiser or long boards 4. regular double kick boards (with enough sized nose & tailed decks)
To start, if your board is between the size of a penny & a longboard, it could be a cruiser board, which is fine. If the wheel don't give you that much speed, that's fine as well. You will need to practice riding & mastering your balance while riding at slower speed. Then if you well mastered & handling riding on your current setup, and feel the need for much faster cruising experience, change your wheels first. A suitable cruiser set of wheels & bearings. Check your local skate shop to help you out. When you get on riding at faster speeds and want to progress from there. Decide what you want from the questions above.
Check out some youtube tutorials about skateboard riding basics. I've seen tons of vids there that can help you out.
There is no age limit in learning something new. Important thing is to enjoy while your doing it. And stay safe pa din. Wear protective gears if needed.

thanks for the great info! I won't be getting into tricks so I guess I'll be getting another kind of board, once I learn how to find my balance on my current one.
I've never heard of a cruiser board though, what's the main difference from a longboard? AFAIK, a penny is like a really tiny plastic version of a longboard, because the wheels are made for cruising (the big flat kind), and you can't jump longboards because they're really big and wide and has a good amount of flex.
I hope I can get back on my board soon! konting courage pa :)

Sa pagiikot ko sa isang thrift store, nakakita ako ng used trickboard. I never own a really good skateboard so hindi ko alam kung ok ba yung item, binili ko na din. $5 lang eh. Ahaha
I think it's just a generic trickboard na good enough for a noob like me. Sa tagal ko na hindi nakapag board, kapa-kapa ako ulit, sa kasamaang palad, bumagsak ako ng 2 beses, 1st- while trying to land a pop shuvit, akala ko kaya ko pa kasi nakapag ollie pa ko kahit mababa... Pero sablay, ayun, twisted ankle, inagapan ko na lang ng cold and hot compress. Hindi ako nakalakad for a week. Actually, hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa fully healed. 2nd- while cruisin' sa isang trail., medyo pababa at nag gain ako ng speed kaso, may tinamaan akong pebble... Ben tumbling ang action ko eh., galos sa tuhod (magaling na).
I'm planning to buy a "good" one in the near future., may nakitaan ako dito na naka trickboard with big wheels. Parang sarap i-ride. We'll see.
Post ko next time yung chipengpeng kong trickboard. :-D

dun ako nag plan na mag "cruise".. tingin-tingin ng penny/long-board.. kaso parang I can't see my self riding a long/cruise board. sanay kasi ako sa trickboard. kung Penny's naman.. parang mas mahirap i-balance dahil sa size nya. you might wanna keep that in mind. so., I'm sticking to my trickboard pero papalitan ko yung wheels ko. Been browsing the internetz for cruise wheels., medyo pricey..., so pinigilan ko muna na bumili.. syempre, ikot-ikot pa din sa thrift stores kung saan ko nabili yung trickboards ko.. and BOOM! may na-spot-an akong quad roller skates. i said to myself., maybe this could work. so I bought the damn skates for $7.65.

Wow ang ganda ng trail! hindi pa steep yung slope masyado, chill lang. samin di pwede ang chill, bundok kasi eh, so stick ako sa flat roads :))
Pinag-iisipan ko yung mga longboard na medyo malapad given na olats ang aking balance, at gusto ko lang naman din mag cruise. di rin naman ako magaling mag tricks hehe. mahal lang talaga so stick to the regular board and I'll learn as much as I can from it! AMMK! :)

Yes mozart123, yan ata yung kay Willy Santos na skate park. Ginagawa na nga daw. Saw some pics of construction progress. Like. Yes also, skate lang while we can. It's a good form of exercise na din, that you can do by yourself. Skate at any level as long as it's fun.
Buti nga sa Manila magkakaroon na ng skate park. Sa amin sa Parańaque malabo pa considering the city's deficit. :(

Ako po at ang Organisasyon ng One Manila project ay lubos na humihingi ng pag unawa, pasensiya at sapat na araw para sa pagbubukas ng kauna-unahang public skatepark sa manila. sa kadahilanan na hindi po matutuloy ngayong Dec5 araw ng sabado at muli sa Dec12 araw din ng sabado itutuloy ang ating Pagdiriwang. May mga dapat pa pong ayusin,linisin na parte ang parke para masmapulido ang pag gawa nito. Madaliin man din po namin ang pag gawa gusto namin mas maging maayos pa po ito at gusto din po namin talaga makasama si mayor sa parada at sa pagbubukas ng Pampublikong skatepark kanya nga lang may biglang importanteng lakad si Mayor na kailangan nyang gampanan para sa kanyang tungkulin at muli sa Dec12 makikiisa siya sa parada natin. Para sa inyo/atin din po ang aming ginagawang proyekto na ito kaya muli ako po ay lubos na humihingi ng unawa at pasensiya mga ka-padyak. Maraming salamat po! Pero, kumusta naman kaya ang magiging security at maintenance nung park? sana maalagaan para pakinabangan ng mga skaters at hindi ng mga rugby boys, batang hamog, at ng mga gang ng mga gunggong.

my friends from #WWAPS (we want a Paranaque skatepark) joined the opening of the Manila Skate Plaza. Still, all hopes for other cities. But definitely we would skate that plaza until we have our own in our city.
Not sure about the maintenance responsibilities sa MSP. I'm guessing it would be voluntary or local govt assisted, since project naman siya ni Mayor Erap & the local skate organization "One Manila"

Erap to open P32-M Vitas Skate Park
MANILA, Philippines - Manila will soon become the country’s skating capital as Mayor Joseph Estrada is set to inaugurate the P32.59-million Vitas Skate Park in Tondo.
The park, which sits on a 1,774-square meter lot in Tondo, is touted as the biggest public plaza in the Philippines.
Estrada will lead the soft opening of the park before the May 9 elections.
The mayor said he decided to build the park to keep away the youth from illegal drugs and other vices.
Estrada cited a report from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency that 92 percent of the barangays in Metro Manila are affected by illegal drugs.
He said he plans to put up more parks and sports centers in the city to make sure that the youth will have other things to focus on.

Professional skateboarder and DKNY model Dylan Rieder dies at the age of 28 after battling leukemia
Professional skateboarder Dylan Rieder passed away on Wednesday at the age of 28.
The athlete died of complications related to leukemia.
The Wesminster, California, native started skating at age nine and quickly worked his way up to the top of the sport. His sponsors were Birdhouse and Quicksilver.
He also used his good looks to work as a model. He appeared with Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn in the spring 2014 DKNY campaign.

Amateur Filipino skateboarders from across the country had an adrenaline-charged showdown of moves and tricks at Circuit Makati for the second staging of Mountain Dew’s Dew Tour AM Series in the Philippines.
“We had a great time when we held the Dew Tour AM Series for the first time in the Philippines last year,” shared PepsiCo Flavors Category Manager Katrina Paras.
The face-off on Nov. 20 to 21 brought the winners of three grassroots events, called bootcamps, that took place in Laguna, Cebu and Davao to the skate park in Makati City.
