Title: Blades/Knives
Post by: spadettie on March 07, 2013, 08:05:12 PM
Some of my friends are starting to collect tactical/hunting knives. I wonder if there are any philmusic members who are also into this?

This goes for all blades/knives collections. :D

I have US navy knive given to me as a gift. It has a compass and a nylon wire for fishing.

My uncle has folding knives + butterfly knives, but sold it all to assemble a BMX. this was 2 years ago. I only see it as an eye candy, siguro magagamit din at times.

uy may ganitong thread pala. I'm always interested in collecting knives. I had a butterfly knife and a tactical knife back in high school but my mom confiscated it kasi I bought it in secret.  :-D want to start collecting again.

I have one lying around here somewhere.. It has this lock mechanism so it doesn't accidentally pop-up the blade and it has a small but really bright flashlight on it. I also have this 'mini' katana from Hong Kong. It's mainly for display purposes (obviously), but the blade is sharp enough to inflict cuts.

I'm ready for the zombie apocalypse...

But I really want to own a katana though. Beats the hell out of a longsword.

^ I actually held a katana a couple of years ago and I couldn't believe how light it was. our machete was heavier in fact.

Ive got an axe and bolo at home. Though pang gardening ko lang ginagamit. Some time ago i bought a switchblade. Liked its non conspicuous look. For personal security. Question: as privte vehicle owners, allowed ba na may bladed weapons sa kotse?

i have tried it but never owned it... good for concealed carry and for self defence too i guess but dont expect too much on the blade (it cuts nice though) i would preffer a blade that i can really use.. but hey its nice to have a blade to use when you need one better than not having a blade at all. you can find this at cutting edge store (saw one in megamall )hann manila and kitchen pro in shangrila

Ayus tong thread na to. I'm really big on kitchen knives since I like to cook.

Sa mga knife forum puro Japanese nalang, you'll almost never find anything sa mga 'buhay na bato' and the like.

I also have this hook-shaped knife, maliit lang, binili ko sa MK Kitchen, paring knife daw, but I use it for whittling.

I bought a pair of balanced throwing knives for my best friend (a girl) and a shuriken for her best friend (also a girl). minsan iniisip ko bawiin na lang

Heads up for knife-nuts.  FORGED has a shop in the Shangrila mall new wing, top floor.  It's impossible not to drool at the Hinderers, Chris Reeves Knives, Fallkniven, Lionsteel, etc.

I prefer the sleek and classic tactical/EDC stylings of Benchmade knives, though, and haven't bought into the hard-use overbuilt folders yet.

Since fan ako ng samurai culture and philosophies, binili ko.

Yun yung nirequest niyang regalo nung pasko.

One time, nakaleave ako nung April of this year lang. Tapos kung ano ano sinasabi ko tipong, "...as the warrior poises to strike the enemy with one slash, the wind blows ever so gently, signaling a calm before the actual storm to come blah blah blah..."

Mukha daw akong [chewbacca] haha.

How's the grind on the Birler? In 2015 or was it 2016 I acquired some axe heads from ebay. All of which I made handles for in mahogany (I believe the proper term is, to 'hang' the axe). One true temper Vulcan double bit, true temper 1-1/2lb hatchet size, and one 2lb that's only marked "Made in Sweden". Perhaps from the Hults Bruk forge from what I gather. Anyway, all are quite nice and I agree they're best for chopping, but relatively uncommon since machetes, parangs, and bolos are much preferred in SE Asia.

Medyo conflict for me because the axe was considered the right tool for chopping in boy scout training. Then in JEST they say in tropical climates when you need to clear thick overgrowth in trails, the jungle bolo is the practical multi tool to carry. You know, for cooking rice in bamboo and all that good stuff. :-D

Love axes still, because they're cool. My first one was a crappy hand me down from my Dad, a 13" long hammer/axe/ with a pry bar nail puller at the top of the head. Full tang! Alog talaga buong braso mo if you use it to trim yard branches of santol and duhat.

^^
I was thinking of getting a machete too for clearing dense brush pero I think I wouldn't do it that much but, who knows. Birler's head is heavy and is good for power chopping, blades sharpness is still still the same as when brand new after cutting local mahoganies and thick and hard chico branches. Issue is the head is getting a little loose, the wood might have shrunk a little, I already know this issue of the head getting wobbly prior to getting one and I think may remedyo naman jan or have someone replace the wood handle or I could do it myself pag sinipag ako.haha Its really fun cutting woods/trees plus the calories burned for the activity. I might try to take down a big sampaloc tree this week.
