Title: Pedal Soundclips
Post by: markflo on October 09, 2006, 01:38:38 AM
I thought it might be a great idea if there was a thread dedicated solely for forumites to post soundclips of great sounding pedals, whatever it may be, that they come across on the internet.
NO FLAMING. any non soundclip related posts will be edited/deleted. let's keep this thread nice & clean.
on the other hand, no negative opinions on clips either...you diss a post, your post gets deleted. we're here to learn about pedals & not be "holier than thou" or condescending towards your fellow forumites. if you wanna comment, make sure it's a positive one.
GO!

ngek sayang, binaba na ata ung soundclick page ni chubtone....i listened to it a few weeks ago. click the link above for the harmony central post.interesting conclusion.
edit: i changed the link.... galing ng comparison. very slight yung differences in tone, when you're the one listening anyway. the tone he got mostly from his amp...and his hands :D .
i think you would 'hear' the differences when you're the one playing. again you respind differently through your attack and all the subtleties.

Behringer pedals / amps soundclips ..
taken from www.robtognoni.com/behringer_review.htm

Please Note: "I have always used my ears for decisions regarding guitar equipment. I totally trust them. I am now an official Behringer endorsee. This has eventuated because of my belief not only in Behringer, but the fact that ALL musicians can now access quality sound economically. At the time of writing the review below, (as it mentions) I had no affiliation with Behringer. It was written without ANY bias or prejudice. The same goes for all my recent reviews or comments regarding Behringer."

2 sample MP3s using a Behringer Ultra Distortion UD 100 on a low gain setting through a clean set channel on a LaBoga RAD 111 Duo 50w combo. The level of drive is controlled from the guitars volume control. A Behringer Blues Overdrive BO 100 was also used to boost gain when needed.
Here is an mp3 compilation of the Behringer V-Ampire LX210 live in action. The recording was made via 2 room microphones only. The amp was running direct via the 2 balanced outputs to the mixing desk, although a lot of the sound you hear is directly from off stage. The recording procedure was not ideal, neither is the actual recording quality, however it was all that could be done on the night of the gig. It definately gives a good indication of how the amp works in a real situation with a loud rhythm section.
Here is an mp3 demonstrating the V-Amp 2. The unit's sound quality is excellent for direct computer recording. I also have no hesitation using it live direct to PA. The models used were the "Brit Classic" and the "Brit Class A" with their standard preset cab sims. Some Reverb and "Ping Pong" Delay was also dialed up. (The effects were exaggerated slightly in places so you could hear them) For the Bass, I accidently hit a factory preset patch (3E) using the "Tweed Combo" model...I liked it...it's really dirty sounding! To put it into perspective, the V-Amp 2 doesn't have all the models and features of the Line 6 PODxt, but if you want something easy to use, sounds great and is good value for money, you just can't go passed this. I really do like this unit.

I've mamaged to dig up another couple of "little treasures" demonstrating the Behringer V-Ampire LX210. Now first of all...you really gotta excuse a few of the bum notes...ok? Ok, now we're close friends...here they are...live in action. Again, the recordings were made via 2 room microphones only. The amp was running direct via the 2 balanced outputs to the mixing desk, and again, a lot of the sound you hear is directly from off stage.
Rough ol' recording, but there it is, the amp is doing a great job and what is really interesting is the interaction between guitar and amp. The volume swells are done by manually manipulating the guitar pot only. (Including the tremolo effect in the Live (3) MP3)
1) SD-2 Crunch 2) SD-2 Lead 3) Boston HM-100 4) Dunlop Crybaby 95Q clean 5) Dunlop Crybaby 95Q with SD-2 Crunch 6) Dunlop Crybaby 95Q with SD-2 Lead 6) Dunlop Crybaby 95Q with Boston HM-100
All pedals stock, unmodded
Enjoy!

on my long quest for a good and cheap dirt guitar effect ...i found what ive been looking for in this pedal, so i started a new thread for the DS1 BAKEMONO
1) swith on the left part is for the hard clip (DS1 mode), & soft clip (TS9 mode)
2) switch on the right side is for the sushi, and warp mode
3) pre-bass, shape shift knob on the left side- controls the amount of bass hitting the signal/drive stage (the lower the bass, the tighter the tone)
4) warp control knob on the right side - from tight and punchy, loose and fuzzy, to everything in between
the soft clip mode really has a very good crunch sound for my taste as for the hard clip mode... i can have a variety of good dirt sound with some tweeking on the knobs
with BAMF's mastery on pedal circuitry and psychic_sushi's good tone prefference... a MONSTER just came to life! i cant imagine i could get the exact sound im looking for into a single distortion pedal!
SOUNDCLIP: - settings on the switches is shown on the pic - pre-bass knob at 5 'o clock - warp control knob at 7 'o clock - tone control at 11 'o clock - level at 12 'o clock
this is the settings that i use, only the DIST knob is tweaked to get the crunch / full dirt sound
DIST at 5 'o clock, volume controll swells on 0:37 to have a crunch tone and back again at full position on 0:54 to get a full dirt sound http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=671561&songID=5168174
DIST at 7 'o clock, you can have a good crunch tone http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=671561&songID=5168133
DIST at 5 'o clock to have a full dirt sound http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=671561&songID=5168110

listen to Super collosal by Joe Satriani .... saw him use this pedal while playing that song then it just crapped out on him in the middle of the song. Joe finished the song and apologized to the audience and explained what happened. This pedal can do 8 octaves...if you ask me a Digitech Whammy can SOMEWHAT get close to that effect.

DS-1 Distortion This is truly a classic distortion pedal. It produces a distortion sound with a hard edge and is known to have a very low noise level compared to other distortion pedals. Many people swear that the older "Made in Japan" models sounds better than the newer "Made in Taiwan" models. The DS-1 has over the years been used by a lot of great guitar players. Steve Vai and Joe Satriani are two players who has voiced their praise over this pedal. The DS-1 is also a favorite among modifiers. Keeley, Analogman and Stinkfoot all provide their own versions of this icon among distortion makers.
Version differences The design of the DS-1 has changed significantly twice throughout its lifetime. First time was around 1994 when the Toshiba TA7136AP opamp was replaced with the Rohm BA728N. In 2000 the opamp was again changed. This time it was replaced with the Mitsubishi M5223AL. Regardless of the circuit changes, the DS-1 sounds just like it did when first released back in 1978.
The DS-1 has also gone through a number of cosmetical changes. The earliest version had a clear switch, silver thumb screw and the D in DS-1 placed directly underneat the t in Distortion. The clear switch disappeared around serial number 8700, the silver thumb screw at serial number 0500 while the D in DS-1 ended up under the i in Distortion around serial number 13xx00.

thanks for the link... looked up keeley mod in google and found this
Quote
Boss BD-2 Mods
Although I don’t own a BD-2 any longer, I could probably kick myself for letting it go after playing a modded one. Stock it’s a good sounding pedal but once you apply some mods to it, such as what Robert Keeley has done, it’s like an entirely new pedal altogether. Now I want one again. Below are some mods that you can do to your BD-2 provided by Mr. Keeley himself.
This is not all-inclusive in what can be done to the Blues Driver. It is meant to give an idea of where the tone can be improved or changed. All of the changes are subtle but when packaged together offer a nice improvement.
* D3 - Change this 1SS133 to a different (1N4002) diode for asymmetrical clipping. This adds second order harmonics. This adds to the tube type sound. I like the sound of this change. * D7 D8 D9 and D10 - Change 2 of of these diodes from 1SS133 to a single 1N4002. More second order harmonic distortion. Although the change is slight, I like it. We actually take out one of the two pairs and replace it with a single 1N4001. * C1, C7, C6, C12, C13, and C15 - Change this electrolytic capacitor to a 10uF Non-polarized caps. Non-polarized caps sound better . I like these anywhere there is signal coupling at this high a value. * C14 - Increase input coupling capacitor value to 0.1uF for increased bass response from your guitar. * C100 - Here is where we can affect the tone control. I prefer a little more lower-midrange and bass frequencies through the tone section. You can increase the lower frequencies by increasing the capacitor value to 0.033uF. Install a switch to add a 0.068uF cap in parallel with this value for the Phat Mode!
Most of the ceramic caps are changed to Expensive Silver Mica (available through Small Bear Electronics www.smallbearelec.com or www.mouser.com or www.digikey.com). This is what makes our mod sound so good. A noticeable reduction in noise. An increase in the smoothness and no harshness left. This type of upgrade is not found in anyone’s mods. The best sound is right here.

nagkcs 1 na rin ako... circuit nito kinopya sa Roland as1 compressor... may kilala akong may roland as1
This is the first Compression/Sustainer pedal released from Boss. It builds on the lagacy of the Roland AS-1. Like all compression pedals it reduces the output of sounds over a set threshold relative to the strength of the input signal, making levels consistent and improving sustain. In the CS-1 this is done by means of photocouplers. The later CS-2 and CS-3 used VCA's (Voltage Controlled Amplifier) to create the same effect. The sound of the CS-1 is thus very different from its successors.

Lipton made me one of his clones, the LA MERA drive, his Mi Audio Crunchbox clone.
As of the while, Im pretty satisfied with it. KRAnTS na KRANTS!!! hahaha
well, i promised lipton to give word about it so ito na. im not a tone expert so wag kayo masyado magtitiwala sakin. hehe.
Sound- Ang first instinct ko when i try Distortion pedals is to put all knobs in flat levels. ewan ko kung bakit pero parang meron dito sa method na to na nakakapag pasipag sakin mag gitara haha. labo.
So ayun all flat levels na. the moment i engaged the pedal and stroked some few riffs natuwa ako bigla kasi ung hinahanap kong crunch ay nandito na. hehe. Midway pa lang ung crunch level pero matapang na. kumagat na kumbaga. obviously nakagat ako. haha
second step. i know most of the guitarists or some, like amp-like characteristics diba? like when you roll back the volume knob of your guitar, youll get this lush clean sound. So sinubukan ko yun. at natuwa na naman ako dahil nag rerespond talaga sya sa volume knob ng guitar. Most of our songs in my band naman mostly use overdrive tones kaya swak talaga kunwari verse part ng song, i dont even have to stomp something, just a stroke of a knob, nag babago na ang texture hehehe
Thirdstep. Definition is very important. Of course sa mababang crunch levels, okay na okay ang chord definition ng mga pedals or amps. PEro dito sa la mera, maski mataas pa ung crunch level, nandoon parn ung definition. So natuwa na naman ako. haha.
Last step. gusto ko marinig ung feedback nya. so sinubukan ko mag strum ng matagal tapos sinustain ito, ayun ayos ang feedback nya. medyo maingay siya pero its all good manageable pa naman. di naman ung ingay na buong guitar playing mo puro feedback na hehe. sapat lang ung ingay. I like it that way. Durrtyyyy!!!
hahaha. so ayun ang aking napaka sabaw na review. Kung gusto nyo marinig, i made a soundclip. www.myspace.com/karnerecords tapos hanapin nyo ung la mera drive test. heheh.tapos play nyo. tapos critique nyo din. haha. ung tone na lang kasi ung playing ko basura eh. hahaha
dito sa clip, i used my custom elegee SG, tapos ung la mera straight sa pod for cabinet simulations. ung delay thing dd6 un. hehe.

Been looking for one here pero wala e so kinausap ko ung manufacturer sa US... walang distributor sa pinas --- gawin daw akong distributor if kukuha ako ng worth 500k... wow. like i have that much money!

Kung gusto nyo marinig, i made a soundclip. www.myspace.com/karnerecords tapos hanapin nyo ung la mera drive test. heheh.tapos play nyo. tapos critique nyo din. haha. ung tone na lang kasi ung playing ko basura eh. hahaha
dito sa clip, i used my custom elegee SG, tapos ung la mera straight sa pod for cabinet simulations. ung delay thing dd6 un. hehe.
hahaha! :-D nabistong may clone account!

just got this in the mail..... the best spring reverb pedal out there IMHO.
Got it a while ago. Gave it a spin. Awesome reverb indeed. But it was a bit subtle for my taste so I traded it with a Malekko Spring Chicken. Suits me better.

Actuallu I got it first week of June...I went to Boston and New York kasi eh. I guess it depends on the type of music you play.... kulang ang reverb para sa slide, Bart? It sounds really good with my strat and 335 either clean and overdriven.

Check out what the POG 2 can do. What I like about the new pedal is that you can also control the attack instead of having to use volume swells on the guitar or a volume pedal. Oh, and presets...PRESETS!!!

it has its use for that type of tone but I actually prefer the Tim and Zendrive more for smooth OD sounds and a BB preamp/ OCD for edgier stuff. di ba you have a Butler tube driver? i think the Jetter blue was meant to emulate the marshall+tube driver sounds that EJ gets from that rig but for what it is, it gets pretty close to my ear. the demos online that i referred to was pretty useful and are spot on to give you an idea.

ah, then you are all set:) i am thinking about getting an Ethos to use with my Mark 1 and Dr.Z. apparently, the smoothness if this gadget is well worth the price of admission. the zendrive and eternity, i thought, were pretty smooth sounding pedals and pretty much everyone i've talked to who has used it says it can run circles around those pedals and then some. ikaw? unsa'y take nimo ani? tinuod gyud nga maayo o bulay-og?

how can i make these kind of sound..?? 0:40..
is it included in ME-20's effects..
or i need to buy a separate octaver..??
dude it's part of the backing track he is playing along to. An octaver cannot do that...you need a harmonizer. The best one is Digitech's Harmony Man...but still it sounds digital.

if anybody can tell me how to compress a video to a smaller size yet still retaining ok quality and sound, please tell me.. i find this video to be quite large..
captured it via a Sony Cybershot W210 digicam.. final size was more than 800MB for roughly 10mins.. then did some shiz via Movie Maker and it became 152MB.. still, too large for me and you.. thus, it takes 10 years to load crap..

(previously posted this on the wrong thread pala. Hehe) we just recorded in Sound creation Studios that had a big Mesa Boogie with 4x12's that you can crank in big 2-floor-high ceiling studio. i plugged my tele into the klon/timmy and cranked the amp loud and just slightly overdriven, and recorded away. i just loved how powerful the guitar sounded and esp. how it sat in the mix in the song. So I went home thinking I needed an amp like that for recording at home, but then i thought, i'd also need a big studio like that to be able to play it that loud. haha! So i just thought, why don't i try to cop that sound with my ethos since i have the individual files to closely a/b anyway. Today, i spent sometime doing that and imho, i was able to come very close to it, even the slight nasal-ness of the track (because of the MD421 mic used) could be dialed in in the ethos. While I was at it, I was able to find many other new sounds for direct recording... Telecaster-->Timmy/Klon-->Ethos--(apogee one)-->Computer
SHOOTOUT

MORE ETHOS TONES

^Medyo kulang ng balls yung green pedal compared sa E6, but still I have to test it for myself, can't rely on youtube vids. I don't even know what amp he used, sounds like an SS peavey to me or maybe it's the recording :-D

My demo of Shredhead in the style of Fusion (kuno)
- circuit is based on the ever popular Rebote Delay 2.5 - has a warm & thick ANALOG delay/echo effect - short, sweet slapback echo from 10mS up to 580mS cavernous, ghostly delays - three knob layout that controls: Blend (wet/dry mix), Time (delay time), and Feedback (delay repeats) - WARP mode is to achieve swirling and spacious tones
SPECS: - true-bypass heavy-duty 3pdt footswitch - high-grade components used: 1% tolerance metal resistors, metal film capacitors..for more 'HI-FI' sounding analog delay - equipped with ALPHA POTS (for better response) - 9v DC operated (center negative), no battery compartment - super bright blue LED - clear-coated to give glossy finish
MODIFICATIONS: - added WARP mode for: -- longer delay, delay, delay, delay, delay repeats -- When FEEDBACK knob is maxed, it will trigger endless repeats and signal oscillation (turn off the pedal and the delay signal is still there when engaged!)
 sabi na nga ba e. panalo yung SH mabubuhay PF15 mo nyan! Bad trip nauna ka pa sa akin ako last year ko pa pinagnanasahan yang SH. :-D
haha! planning pa lang ako bro.. kulang pa pera ko ehh tagal pala magbenta ng gears hahahaha! nasanay kasi ako sa magic cards na pag post ko maya maya may mga replies na hehehe! :-D

These pedals were made by one of the prominent amp engineers in the States, James Brown (has worked with Satriani, Van Halen, etc). These are only two of the pedals initially being introduced here in the Philippines.

Just some ambient swells to showcase the different "shimmer sounds". These are the ones most popular for shimmer, it seems. Sans maybe the Line 6 octoverb setting. Goodrich for swells.
Empress VMSD and Strymon Blue Sky:
Strymon Timeline and Eventide Space doing something similar:
(dunno why the video seems funky, must be imovie.. but sound seems to work fine)
