In terms of style, yes it could be joey puyat.  It was that period when carlos santana recorded with john mclaughlin.    I bet the "Welcome" album of Carlos deeply influenced Phase II. This song is reminiscent of "When I Look into Your Eyes" of said album.

Don't thank me, thank the mystery uploader named 'eunoise.' Him/her or anybody who has the recorded music of Destiny (Trees and Taste of Honey), Petrified Anthem , Phase II ('last refrain'), Aunt Irma, and other progressive Pinoy bands from the seventies-- share them please.  Gracias.

Nice nostalgic clip!

Joey says it's circa '76, using a Les Paul through an ElectroHarmonix Bad Stone Shifter into a small all-tube Teisco amp, a hand-me-down from an uncle who played in a combo

He did everything except the short 8-bar outro at the end. That was Johnny using a '62 SG with a Black Beauty pickup, found in Raon for (guess what?) a grand  :-o

Joey even adds, "You know what, it's funny but when I recall those times, I can almost see a picture (in my mind's eye) of us playing the gear. We didn't have real Fender amps because they were too expensive so we used what we could get - local tube knockoffs by Anthony's in Sta. Mesa. He copied Bandmaster circuits and sold them for 500 bucks." He got a 50w combo and stuck an Altec speaker in it. That was his Mother Earth setup.

What a memory, huh?  :-)

Hey Tinnie, thanks for the info on the guitars Joey and Johnny used, and their gear setup. Am impressed too at how Joey remember all the details--speakers, circuits, wattage. BTW, I just got a retro all-tube Teisco amp the last  time I visited Davao.  I would like to test it the next time we jam. Tinnie, si Rene nga pala ito; remember Metheny's 'James'?

geez... how candid of Joey Puyat and how clear the memory...

so in the intro - was that tape reverb?

even rarer would be Phase 2 with Louie Ocampo on "moods of Tina".

guys maybe we could collaborate on a semi definitive history of pinoy rock or even the pinoy music scene in the 70's since we seem to remember some of them. there is a article on wikipedia which seems to be half baked. i do have some of the material (sadly not the music) in print and i think we owe it to ourselves to at least put this in an orderly manner.

Hi Noy!

I wasn't able to ask Joey if that was tape reverb. Didn't want to bug him with all those GAS-related details. Hehe! Maybe Kedy could shed light on that, since he actually plays with Joey regularly.

If that was recorded in the 70s, that WAS probably a tape echo of some sort.

History of '70s pinoy rock? Sounds daunting man. Besides, di ko na naabutan yan ...  :-P

"Besides, di ko na naabutan yan ... "   'twas a time when those pinoy musicians had to work within the limitations of their gear at the time and as such maybe their body of work would have been 80 percent musicality and the rest was just the gear. nowadays with all this digital crap and even making amps "virtual" then i'd say its 60 percent gear and the rest would be something else.

Does anyone, specially the "Sta. Mesa Tower" boys, know whatever happened to those tapes?  Though the recording quality of those tapes can be considered archaic by today's standards, they constitute a large portion of what we could call the patrimony of pinoy rock/jazz/blues.

A piece of advice: DO bug him with all the GAS-related details! He wouldn't even consider it as being bugged. GASsers want to talk about GAS-related details....  :-D
