eto yung sa nikon:

d50-down >>entry level (beginners)
d70-up >> enthusiasts to semi-pro
d200 - up >> semi-pro to pro
d2x - up >> pro

don't be fooled, may nabasa ako na mas ok daw d40 kaysa d50 though di ko pa nattry.. pero d40 ang suggestion na second camera for d70/d80 users.. ang limitations nga lang (as lectured to me by dre) yung lens kit at AF mode..

wala yan sa pana na sa indian pa din yan

I was at Hidalgo a few days before the holy week break.  D40 ang mabenta.  The 30 minutes i was inside Mayer's, at least 3 units were sold.  Nakiusap yun tatay ko na bilhan utol ko ng DSLR for his grad gift.  I eventually got a D40, at 25k (kit, store warranty only).  For a beginner on a budget, the D40 is not bad at all.  They've also released a D40x i hear, but haven't checked that one out.

Anyway for more info try looking up the forums at DPP.  Sometimes they tend to be too technical with their responses (even to noobs) but generally they are all helpful.  Minsan lang di mo maintindihan pinagsasabi nila because of the jargon, and you have to take the extra step of googling what it is they're saying to translate to layman's terms.  Nonetheless, lots of tips for newbies.  The forumites there are helpful, like the pips here at philmusic  :-D  What to consider when buying, what to watch out for, etc etc.

Yup... we all know the pana - indian correlation... Pero paano titira yung indian kung wala siyang pana? Naghahanap lang naman siya ng entry level na DSLR...

Minsan, nasa pana din yan... kung magaling nga yung indian, pero baluktot yung pana, di rin dederecho yung tira nun...

Since you can buy IP cams real cheap nowadays ( I hear as low as P350 in CDR King?) might as well get a real webcam and use your digicam for taking pictures.

It would be better to use the proper tools for the right job right?
Kung asintado si Indian ano pa kaya ang resulta kung maganda din ang pana nya. :-D

A good all around digicam for 20 to 23k for beginners..suggestions pls..

Aside from the canon S3 IS (which my cousin could buy for me @ 22k in Abu Dhabi), any other cameras i could consider? i've read other topic's suggestion like the nikon d40 and the fujifilm Fujifilm S6500 but am not yet sure how much is it @ abu dhabi. I guess i would want a camera that i can use to capture close up pics (i guess they call it macro) and get to capture great views on pics but still has a good video functionality w/ audio. I've had an aiptek slimcam before which only had digital zoom and cannot capture anything on poorly lit environments so it really sucks. any other options guys?? thanks!! :-D

From what ive hears its cheaper daw in HK but from the looks of it, i think im gonna buy sa pinas nalang. grbe laki nd difference.

I second the motion on the D40.

what more can you ask for?  a nice and clean (even at high iso) 6mp sensor, 2.5 frames per second, a very sharp kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6), that distinctive "nikon image output" and instant on.

cheers!

one drawback though on the D40..

you can't use non-AF-S lenses.  These are lenses which require an internal focusing motor (within the camera body)

There are a lot of nice AF-S lenses out there (most of nikon's new zooms are AF-S lenses) but the bargain lenses are usually non-AF-S, like the excellent 50mm f/1.8 prime and a host of other nice off-brand (non-nikon) lenses.

but again at under 25K, you can't get anything better than this camera  :-D

25k sa hidalgo (specifically, sa Mayer) gets you a lens kit.

33k will get you either a D40x with kit lens, or a D40 double lens kit (the stock 18-55mm plus a 35-210 mm).  faced with that choice, a friend of mine got the d40x, which has a 10.2 MP sensor (vs 6 for the D40), 3 frames per sec (vs 2.5 for the d40) and you can go as low as ISO 100 (200 lang ata sa D40).
