GUITAR CARE - What to do?
« on: September 26, 2008, 03:40:58 PM »
Not sure if this has been asked before:

If one will not use a guitar (electric or acoustic) for a long time e.g. month/s or year/s, is it necessary to loosen the strings or totally take it off?  I'm afraid the neck would warp if I take it off or leave the strings in tact.  What other precautions should one take?

Appreciate the info.

BTT:
quote from guitar tips:
Quote
Remove some but not all of the tension from the strings, clean & polish the guitar, and then put a little lemon oil on the fret board. Put the guitar in its case and store it where it won't get too warm, cold, or humid and won't get bumped around. A good place is an interior closet.

Number 1 Rule:

Don't do a guitar spin.

Sure it looks cool but...

If you really wanna be cool, focus more on your skills hehe...

(Nagmamagaling na naman ako)

share ko lang,
baka kasi may mag kamali or same experience, pinalalabhan ko yung softcase ko minsan.

Then after a while bumabalik din. May nagsabi sakin stains daw yun galing sa pawis. Nangyayari ba to sa inyo?

Un nga.. kasi habang tumatagal parang naghihilahan
ung string sa bawat dulo (headstock at bridge)

kaya parang nayuyupi ung guitar like a boat. :-D

well its important to loosen the strings if you won't use it for a long period of time lalu na kapag cold ang weather kasi i think a standard tuned bass or guitar will have a tension of 200= pounds depending sa stiring gauge din.. kaya dapat i loosen natin yun.. well kung talagang stock at di na nagagamit, its better to remove na the strings..importantly, periodic maintenance is important..just cocnstantly observe and have a look on your instrument kahi naka stock at di niyo na ginagamit..it only takes a couple of minutes lang naman eh...

you know di ko gets yung idea bakit kailangan i-slacken yung strings (but not completely). ano yung difference kung gagamitin mo or hindi?

lets say, di ka aalis, mababawasan lang yung gamit mo to about once every month or di ka magpapalit and magtotono ng strings for a year, di ba di mo naman kailangan luwagan yung strings for that?

naisip ko lang kasi wala naman difference if you use it or not. i havent adjusted my truss rod in a while, i've used the same guage/brand of strings and kept it at standard tuning for 2 years now. so i'm assuming if i had to put the guitar down for a while like, say, a year, i shouldn't have to do anything to it. just keep it stored where humidity wont kill it or my daughter will knock it about.

As in over pulled siya. Any solutions with this?
