I'm running out of stuff to write, so I thought I'd rehash an old PhilMusic concept. Sometime 1998 (or was it 1999) we ran a series on "new up and coming bands" of the day under the title "Notes from the Underground".

I think it's a concept worth revisiting so if any new band out there wants a genu-u-ine honest to goodness PhilMusic story on them, please e-mail me the following:

1) a band bio
Please indicate:
1.1 - band members
1.2  - info about the music - genre, style, etc.
1.3 - info about the band

2) a few good (or even great) band photos

3) URLs or Net links of official band sites

4) a couple of mp3s of your demos

Believed to be one of the first doom metal bands in the Philippines to redefine the meaning of the underrated subgenre of doom metal, Winter Nightfall serves as the local metal scene's "catalyst" to death, black and thrash metal bands who describe "speed in metal is the heaviest".

Doom metal is known to be of entirely or extremely slow or down-tempo in nature.  However, the band was critically bombarded with atrocities and claims of not belonging to the scene dominated by bands who find speed and brutality the only factor that dominates the "how metal are you" meter stick.

Tanya Markova

Tanya Markova is the brainchild of 8 morons with girlish yet creepy pseudonyms who would rather make fun of the current music scene's redundancy and inadequacy to recognize the meaning of “art” rather than be brainwashed by music conspirators to create a music that is characterized by “whininess” and irritation factors. The band was formed because they are tired listening to OPM bands that were 'playing safe and sticking to the sugarcoated “boy meets girl and they broke up and he misses her” formula especially in pop culture. Their goal is to have fun with themselves, the public, the gender benders of stand up comedy, the ballet dancers, politics, late 80's and early 90's horror and action movies, theatre of the damned, and everything under the sun. The band is actually composed of people that would fill these stupid description(s): frustrated, fun loving, nuts, musician, bastards, banger, idiot, attention-deficit disorder victims, penicillin user, and [chewbacca]. The band's childish aura and demeanor is meant to entertain the audience with silly lyrics and twisted musical exploration, their musical influences ranging from metal, rock & roll, post-punk, acid jazz and 60's/70's pop.         Seven Aside is definitely one of the few unsigned bands who continues to explore any major musical genres existing.

        Fronted by Christopher Russel Cardinal, the bands vocal player with a wide vocal range. Followed by the melodic and heavy riffs of Jules Fred Batisla-ong on guitars. With the combination of Creeping lower tones of Crius Trespeces and the Loud rumbling Drums and Percussive beats of Roger Belonio. The band fuses individual influences together to create a chemical compound known as, Seven Aside Music.

         The band first appeared at Chakik's Bar in Valle Verde for a production covering Tool and A Perfect Circles finest tunes. After that, all the rest just flowed. Production after production the band made a name for the people to know. Until a break came, band's songs are being played on RadioPilipinas. Where the band met other musicians who definitely got the talent. Playing with these independent artists made the band's growth grow more.

          As of the moment the band already completed 10 songs written in different styles and inspirations. Hopefully a meteor of luck falls to make a record deal in the near future. With perseverance, creativity and brotherhood. The band, Seven Aside has no way of stoping making melodies in the heart of Rock...

We are musical brothers. We love music. We dig rock n' roll. We dig pop, reggae, funk, rap...the blues...chopsuey na musical diversities. It is but natural for us to form our band. Matagal nang magkakakilala ang mga members ng band. We jam and play gigs madalas kasama ang aming radarious friends na sina Tenacious Denz at Raymond Malicsi. We hangout once in awhile and share musical tastes and sharing ng mga musical idols. Madalas si Edgar pupunta kena Chris to jam and record original song demos. Onin used to frequent Edgar's batcave just to jam and write lyrics or record demos (We have LOTs of songs) . We also frequent bars just to talk about our favorite bands,guitars, compare stomps, FX gadgets, share newfound sounds and our evil plan to record our songs. We dig music. No music no life. Pag walang RADAR walang buhay.
