what would be the best first digital SLR?
« on: June 09, 2009, 08:50:36 AM »
im looking to buy my first DSLR, something flexible, and i have a couple of ideas.
i know the nikon d40 would be a great first choice since it already has an excellent kit lens. im also liking the canon 450d's features. im still in the "research process" so im looking for solid opinions from users. thanks in advance :-D

kung ano maafford mo.
if low budget:
nikon d60
nikon d5000
canon 450d
canon 1000d

pag kaya pang istretch:
nikon d80 or d90
canon 40d/ 50d

if you really plan on getting serious, investing on a good body and good glass is a must.

btw, ive held and used a 450d (from a relative) i liked how it felt while i was using it, and unlike a lot of people, i actually like where the buttons are. but thats just me

sa mga natry ko na(nikon d40,d60,d80 and d90 and canon 400d, 450d at 40d) in terms of features pipiliin ko nikon d90 then 40d.

agree ako kung low budget, d60. but the rest? parang hindi pang-low budget yun.

@dudeofdude
okay na yung d40 if low budget. pero if you are into diff lenses at tinatamad mag-manual, try d80 pataas, mas makakatipid ka. kung canon naman, it is advisable to buy 450D pataas. or semi-pro dslrs like 20D pataas. :D

I would suggest a D40 instead of D60. It's not worth the extra bucks. For a beginner camera enthusiast the D40 would be enough. And if you plan to upgrade after, go for D90 or D300.

im a total noob.  nakahandle na ako ng d80 before, and it was ok, malaki lang for me and mejo mabigat. plus i had a bit of difficulty making it yield to me... di naman kasi ako photographer.  however, that d80 was later replaced by a d60.

my first impression on the d60 was:
it had nicer colors.  mas matingkad yung reds and all.  i think it wasn't so much as it was a better camera, just that it was easier for noobs to control.

and one more thing, it was easier to handle, since it was much lighter than the d80.  the d60 is it for me.  so far, sya yung pinakamagandang output nung unang try ko (i tried a canon, i tried another high end slr from a photgrapher friend, and the d80).

hope this helps

d40 plus Tamron 17-50 2.8 tpos sb600 your all set. after a few more months
get the 35mm 1.8. Prime lenses are very addicting.

This is the best beginner set i could think off.... for sure 2 years ka di magupgrade kung hobby goal mo..

Mas makakatipid ka kse if you buy what is useable na agad. Dnt fall into the trap of buy something now upgrade in a few months... Waste of money...  :-D

Get the Sony A200...
check out the reviews, dami dyan. but in the end, yung mga entry level na DSLR's are all capable and almost the same lang and specs.

The main reason I got the Sony compared to say Nikons and Canons is the in-body stabilization. Yung sa Canons and Nikons, nasa lens and image stabilization nila, which in the long run, mas magiging mahal at magastos.

Plus, the Sony Alphas can use the old Minolta lenses which is by the way very high in quality and can be had for less the money.

yup. tamron 17-50 f2.8 kaso hanep naman sa presyo. para ka narin naka-d80 kit (combination of D40 plus tamron and flash). hehe. pero ok nga yung ganung setup.

Since there's no budget indicated on the question, for me its. Nikon D90 or D300 or Canon's 40D, 50D.

+1000. listen to thedawn (professional photographer for magazines and stuff, tama ba ten?  :-D) . i wont dive in and buy high end photography gear like the d300, d700 or 40d if you are starting up. I made that mistake too, had three dslr and spent more than $10k of photography gear in a year pero di ko naman nagagamit, at jologs parin ang mga kuha ko.

Sirs, narinig ko sa tropa ko maarte daw D40 pagdating sa lens? Na hindi daw compatible yung ibang old lenses sa kanya at mga bagong lens lang ang pwede? Totoo ba 'to?

Kasi balak kong bumili ng D40 para makapag-start na kong magpractice bago kami magkaroon ng photography classes.  8-)

Thanks in advance!
